What does ASL have to do with the discussion we are having? He wants to know if hearing really well with CI is deaf and and I say yes because they do have some struggle

medical view of deaf is good for business. In fact I am sure they are making more than oil.

And the culturally Deaf does not also have any whatsoever desire to also make money in their own way...?

For the deaf, by the deaf.

The qoute was a joke anyway.

I don't get cjg find it so hard to understand what deaf means.

Kids with CI are deaf, THAT why they get CI in first place. They need be most deaf to get CI.

When they sleep they are deaf.
When they wake up in morning they are deaf.
When they are in shower they are deaf.
When they are in bath they are deaf.
When they are swimming they are deaf.
When they are doing water sport they are deaf.
When they are tired and take CI out they are deaf.
When their CI are broken they are deaf.
Etc so many more examples.

Simple.

Wooooooow at this thread....

Last night, I slept peacefully through a thunderstorm (no CI).

This morning, someone told me "Come over here." when I had my back turned and I heard her perfectly with my CI.

This afternoon, someone said something to me when I wasn't looking, and I had no idea what he said, even with my CI on.

Am I deaf? Am I hearing? Am I HOH? I MUST KNOW. I CANNOT LIVE ON WITHOUT KNOWING.

CJG! HELP ME.

I would say your hearing status is situationally dependent.:giggle:

I go through the same with my HAs. It's odd when someone can sound so clear and then the next so muffled. Actually, probably not so odd .. chances are that you know her voice better than the guy you heard later?

I have been accused of being hearing and I say "110 to 120 dB loss: and they say ..."Oh"

Is it because you are waiting for more advanced technologies or treatment?

It seem like this is the common reason why people decide not to get a CI, including my older sister.

No. I don't like the idea of risking my life (meningitis, etc) to hear so the hearing people don't have to learn signs. It won't kill them if they learn to sign.
