This is what happen when you park your car in front of a hydrant

Yup, seen them before numerous times. Parking on fire hydrant is one of STUPID thing driver do! Its there for emergency and it needs to be READY at moment notice,

I have never seen this happen before and I am going to made damn sure I do not park in front of a fire hydrant. I wonder if your insurance will cover the damage when the windows are broken like that. Damn the a mayor park in front of a hydrant .

Parking in front of one here is very expensive-- it's $250 for doing it, and if obstructed during an emergency, I believe it could be more, but lemme check that first. And a note: there are two on my street alone.

I thought it was $250. I was wrong. It's $100, but an increase is being talked about, and there's also mention of staying 15" away from the hydrants, and because there are two here on my street, that would effectively eliminate a bunch of precious parking spots here.

There are two on my street one us near my building and I moved here 30 years I would shovel the snow away from the hydrant. I am the only person in my condo that made sure the hydrant is not blocked with snow or tall weeds. If I do sell my condo someone will have to keep an eye on it . But I bet no one will . I really don't get it why people aren't concern about the hydrant being easy to get to.

I just pictured a motorcycle in front of one and they broke the motorcycle's windscreen to set the hose on top of...lol

I doubt your insurance would pay for your stupidity (gen'l you) since you're breaking the law.

Depends,

If you have full coverage.... it will pay... it pays for whatever... you have to cover your deductible... and you'll have to pay higher rates... but it will pay... sure! You have to claim it... it's your fault, not theirs. :P Full coverage you can claim whatever, just depends whether you pay higher premiums or they go after someone instead. In this case, you get the higher premium. :D

Minimum coverage, forget it. They'll tell you tough titty said the kitty but have fun with all the new wind you get in your car! You get jack squat with minimum coverage. :P Still your fault, still your bill. :D

15 inches???

If I am right, down here in my area, they mark off like a parking space, but in red, around the fire hydrant.

Well, I'll be damned. There are actually three fire hydrants within a block of my home. I knew about the first two, but forgot about the third one. All of them have a yellow marker line prohibiting parking anywhere near them.

I could see in only one photos here that a yellow marking off the hydrant , but anyone that drive a car should know it's illegal to park in front or too close to a hydrant. I do not part anywhere near one as most the streets in city are very narrow and not park one very narrow streets b/c if there is a fire the fire engines are going to a lot room to get through the street.

http://www.ask.com/question/how-far-do-you-have-to-park-from-a-fire-hydrant

The average distance you have to park from a hydrant is 10 -15 feet according to this web site and of course every city has their own rules.

You see it happen in the movie Backdraft, go to 0:53 in this video to see the clip:

Incidentally, don't read the Daily Mail. It's a terrible newspaper and website, and attracts the worst sort of people. Look how many comments there are on this story condemning the firefighters' actions saying they did it out of 'spite'.
