The Word "Exciting"

I don't think Chase will moderate it. Yesterday he took down all his information, pictures, visitor messages, and left. No word to anyone that I know of.

I am very sorry to hear that. He provided some valuable insight in many areas.

Why are people afraid of the Grammar Nazis? Of course, like in any other subforums, if those "Grammar Nazis" become disrespectful or mean, they can get reported or banned. If people are afraid of constructive criticism of their grammar, then they dont have to visit the grammar subforum, right?

Exactly.

Don't ask me. I don't understand it myself.

It's like the typical "Am I fat?" question that every man hates to hear from his girlfriend or wife. No matter what he says, the wife always find something wrong with his response.

While a person may say that he doesn't mind being corrected when he makes a grammar/spelling mistake, but when another person corrects him... he gets all upset saying something like "Jeez... excuse me for not spelling or saying it right. I'm not perfect. So, chill out!"

Out of every person I've corrected (who asked me to correct them), very few have actually said "Oh, thank you."

If you can't take the answer, don't ask the question!:giggle:

By asking questions like these, they honestly really want to know the truth but when the truth is told to them, they arent ready to face it. It is up to them to decide when they are ready to face the truth about themselves or not. If they cant handle it but keep coming into the grammar subforum, it means inside, they really want to improve their grammar but dont know how to handle facing the truth about themselves just yet but will be in the near or far future, depending on their views on their own selves.

It is a worry when prospect employers see people making these kinds of errors in their writing and assume that the people are not intelligent therefore not hiring them with these false assumptions. It is a big deal out there if one wants to make it up in the career ladder.

I know that many of my friends, coworkers, and acquaintances are not stupid but hearing people, especially employers will judge them right off the bat when seeing so many grammatical errors.

It can limit people when they have poor literacy skills which is why I want my deaf students have that strong first lagnuage before coming to kindergarten so they can get a head start with literacy skills instead of delaying it while trying to get them caught up with language development.

You Go Girl!! Keep on your students and they will do well!!

When you READ, READ, READ, your literacy skills are awesome, no matter if you are deaf or hearing. However, for a deaf person, it is a HUGE DEAL. My next door neighbor is street smart but has horrible spelling and grammar skills that it makes me wonder just how smart she is..... Make sense to you?

See the bolded...that is the correct way. The one in the red is incorrect.

Ahh..gotta love the English language. Try to imagine teaching it to deaf children with language delays!!! That is why it is SOOOO important for all deaf children to be exposed to ASL from the beginning so they can get a strong first language instead of a weak one and then try to explain something like this to them when they dont have a strong first language.

Now, can people stop blaming Deaf schools and Deaf educators for this problem?

yep yep :gpost: ;)

Thanks but the problem is that many of the kids we get first go to the mainstreamed programs in which they have been allowed to fall so far behind especially in programs for the young ones where they arent getting full access to language putting them at serious risks for language delays. That's the root of the problems with Deaf education.

I know some of you guys think I'm a harsh writer but I am not. Let me take some explainations...

What about doing it in a nice way? If it was harsh like "Your grammar sucks and u are stupid!" then I can undy but what about constructive criticism?

I guess I am just rambling nonsense...LOL!

It's a fyi, it's actually considered as a flame review/comment because it will not helpful if a person just says:

Explain:
- (Insult) "Your story sucks!" without explaination why a story sucks.
- (Try to change author's opinions and ideas) " Bah bah.. You can't put (thing, place, etc) in that and this and there. You don't suppose to add that otherwise you are stupid writer for that. Bah bah.."
- (shouting and insulting comment) "Are you a retard or what? Your grammar is so wrong! you cant write this like that!!"
- Many flaming/bashing comments

Yeah.. I hate it when readers gave me a rotten tomate. That's a flame/bash comment or review.

My opinion, constructive criticisms are pretty helpful to me. I got some constructive criticism from PMs at FictionPresss.com and I have no problem with that. I'm not tried to be harsh, really, I just don't accept flaming reviews/comments, I found it quite annoying and not so helpful. IMO.

Yes, I agree with you! I got some bad marks my first two quarters in 5th grade for some things. It was around the springtime that school year before I started to show the marks expected of most children in elementary school. I was already doing subjects at the deaf school required of older children BUT it was NOT on par with most public schools. JMO.

I can't imagine how difficult it is to keep working with students so far behind while trying to bring them up to the grade level before promotion to the next grade level. :ty:
