The Truth about Cochlear Implants

You are correct.

DD - Just having tinnitus (assuming very severe) is not a reason for getting a CI. It doesn't always silence it. I'm one of the fortunate ones where it is totally gone but many others still have some after getting a CI.

U and my aide both..she got hers due to this problem and it went away or so she says. If she is happy, then cool. :)

Er...I'm slightly confused here. Weren't there other issues for her like not hearing well too? ;)

U were talking about the tinnitus being completely silenced right?

True, but that wasn't the main reason I received the CI. The impression you give others is that your friend got a CI just to silence the tinnitus. I can assure you that nobody gets a CI just to deal with that (well if you got the bucks, who am I to say what somebody can or can't do :D). So, I would assume your friend hearing was bad enough to be qualified for a CI.

Now, if one's tinnitus is silenced due to the CI, then that is an additional bonus! As you stated earlier, it is great your friend doesn't have to deal with tinnitus anymore.

That was what she told me. :dunno: She said that her dr recommended it for both tinnitus and vertigo and she didnt want it but both conditions got worse. I didnt know her at the time she got her CI. I just met her about a month ago at work. She keeps telling me how the CI changed her life and I always thought she meant about being able to hear and she said no..cuz it was it stopped the tinnitus and vertigo cold. She said life with those two conditions was hell for her. I never had both conditions so I wouldnt know what it is like.

My best friend has serious tinnitus problems and about 3 years ago, her dr recommended her to get a CI to solve the problem. She thought and pondered about it for a long time but decided not to since she found a way to live with the tinnitus.

Interesting! I can well believe those two conditions together can make anybody's life miserable. My MIL has vertigo issues from time to time. It is certainly no fun. She is a mess when she gets an attack. Now add to that the tinnitus issues..."shudder"...not that she has any. I can perfectly understand why your friend went that route.
