Glazed doughnuts!

1. March 20, 2008, 1:48 A.M. EDT

2. Ancient Egyptian Great Sphinx looks directly at Sol.

3. Earth’s equator swings directly under the sun.

That's close enough. I was looking for the moment of vernal equinox, and that heralds the first day of spring. You're turn, Byrdie.

you got it! was hoping it would take longer than that to figure out the clues.

 I did live in Seattle, Washington --headquarters of the Boeing Company.....

Time for new clues...

1. July 18th, 1958

2. A few celebrate it.

3. "MacCarthyism Era"

On July 18, 1958, my parents were still celebrating the startling fact that I'd graduated high school a couple of months before, something no one thought would ever happen.

Ike Eisenhower was president, and the end of Joe McCarthy's reign of terror was drawing near, so I believe Ike declared a holiday variously called Law Day or USA day to counter Labor Day, which was considered a "Commie" celebration.

(But I thought the actual celebration was in May.)

Am I guessing somewhere in the ball park?

You are very close and the actual celebration is in May.

Only 4 communities in this country actually celebrates it, including Long Beach, WA.

So....what is the actual holiday called? :)

Okay, I remember way back then it was also called "Loyalty Day." There were a few 4-H floats proclaiming it in Big Timber.

Your turn!

It is Loyalty Day and is on May 1st.

I wonder if it has to do with Russia having their holiday on May 1st?
