So a pic of a chimp brings back the memory of a loved one? :hmm:

No reason to be rude..... That was explained in the post you quoted. But then rude personal attacks from you don't surprise me in the least.

Sorry you considered it rude. I said it didn't surprise me that you laughed at the email of the chimp being compared to Obama, and you said it reminded you of a loved one, and that is why you laughed. Perhaps you need to be a little clearer in your explanations.

Maybe it was the racist intent that you were laughing at in memory of a loved one? Who knows. You didn't exactly explain it. All you said was that your grandfather liked pics of monkeys in fully clothes. This went beyond that quite a ways. But according to what you said, then pics of chimps remind you of a loved one. So I wasn't wrong.

However, I am still not surprised that you laughed at this email.

The people who sent the email to the media were Republican recipients who recognized that the contents of the email were beyond the pale. And yes, they're different. They sent it to the media because it was racist. It's really that simple.
It is rather curious as to why a Republican friend would send the email to the media. If I had received the email, I would have deleted it and maybe sent a reply back to Davenport with my opinion about it. But what would be the point in informing the media unless I wanted to either harm Davenport's reputation, or the GOP's reputation, or the Tea Party's reputation. That begs the question, why would I want to harm the reputation of any of the preceding? :dunno:

It could have been someone else in the group that wanted her job. Happens all the time. Most people call that "office politics." No idea, but I refuse to speculate. No different than saving a semen-stained dress for weeks...

It's more complicated than that, hah. For example, who is allowed to call us "deafies?" Certainly not the hearing. Well, not all of them. ;)
Aw, I thought it was a term of endearment. ;)

I believe he was referring to the chimps in clothing cards. (Recently there were TV commercials with chimps in business attire working in an office; that's what people find amusing, when the chimps imitate people.) That's totally different imagery from the email representation.

Chimps in clothing, cats who talk, dogs who play poker, and any other critters with human attributes are often amusing and cute.

Those are NOT the same thing as portraying humans as animals.

Please. Let's not try to imply that one republican or teapartier is capable of thinking outside of the party line. They are unable to think their own thoughts. That is what makes one upchuck. chickenpoops can't think for themselves. duh.
Seriously, I challenge anyone here to show me a post anywhere on AD which shows individual thinking by a republican member which goes against the party creed.
Sorry to say it again. Locksteppers. Prove me wrong.

WOW! One Tea Party activist FORWARDED an email and now the ENTIRE party is racist and trying to start a "race riot" :laugh2: Perhaps the intent of the picture was to make fun of his ears. People did it to W and Ross too.

Posts that exaggerate like the OP make me sick.

meh, it was obvious you were trying to incite as the post you quoted in post 216 was pretty clear. But I don't care.

it shouldn't surprise you that I found it humorous as I explained the context in which I saw it.

Exactly....and I agree. Moments later I realized it could be seen another way. Hence I did not forward it.

In the numerous posts you've directly replied to. And almost everyone except you agreed. Feel free to keep your dissension, but don't expect to be taken seriously when you refuse to acknowledge basic history and facts.

you could have put the post numbers to the (lets not forget) numerous posts.

The people who sent the email to the media were Republican recipients who recognized that the contents of the email were beyond the pale. And yes, they're different. They sent it to the media because it was racist. It's really that simple.

Or so the leftists would have you believe. It was meant as a joke - much like when leftists sent emails depicting George Bush as a chimp. It really is that simple.

If I was politically active whenever that (Colin Powell = "oreo") happened and/or heard about it, then I would have agreed that that would have been a racist sentiment and renounced it. I have no control over what others or the media do or don't do. And I have no idea what your claim of "self admission of bigoted racism" even means. If you mean that anyone who recognizes a message as racist is admitting they're a racist... then you're a moron.

Lets not forget that you mentioned "if" that had happened to Colin Powell, or "if" that had happened to Condi .... well, it did happen to both of them. Where was the outcry then? There wasn't any. I guess the democrats only consider the victims of racism to be members of their own party.

Uh... No, racist messages, especially between private individuals, are clearly protected under the first amendment. This would be why the KKK still exists and was my local city (within the past 10 years or so) was forced to allow them to put up a "Christmas" display along with all the religious groups.

Racism is still illegal. A malicious, slanderous, libelous message can certainly rwesult in a lawsuit. Obama should sue Davenport if he feels her message was racist.

Nope, but racism is racism. You're apparently simply blind to that fact. Congrats.

I was 15 in 2001, and thus had absolutely no interest in politics at the time, so I can't comment on Larry Byrd, but if that happened as you implied (as in, you're not taking something out of context to imply that it's an equitable situation while not actually being one) then he obviously should have been asked to step down, and I'd be shocked if the NAACP didn't do exactly that.

As for your link, that appears to be a response to a different cartoon (which I didn't see anywhere), but of the included cartoons that he claimed were racist, only two or three of them actually looked racist to me (rather than merely being critical of a politician who is black, or in one of cases with Condoleeza Rice, more sexist than racist), and I would agree that they should have equally been denounced.

However, keep in mind that it is not the artist who is being criticized in the current case (nobody thinks the lady who sent the email actually made the image in the first place), but a person in some position of authority in a major political party propagating that image. That isn't to say that the original creator isn't a vile person for making it, but they're under far less public scrutiny, because they're just some random nobody.

=====

This all having been said, it doesn't appear that you're actually receptive to anything I've said, nor are you apparently willing to consider changing your mind, so there's really no point in continuing this discussion. Have a good day.

So ... you are a "young un" then you wouldn't know real racism if it slapped you in the face. Those of us who have lived through it are the real experts.

Whose face is being slapped???

You're straining awfully hard there, man. Better back off before you pull a muscle.

Agree with the deletion or sending a reply with an opinion. As for the rest, it is a conundrum.

Thank you. That was much clearer.

I would say that you have experienced a great deal of white priviledge in your life time, but doubt seriously that you have ever been the victim of racism.

St. Saphire has an indepth understanding of the concept of racism and the nuances and hidden intent it entails. Even unconsciously racist content. It is evident in his posts. You would do well to learn a thing or two from him.

Thank you. That was much clearer.

I'm sorry that this....

My grandfather was one of those that loved those posters of chimps in clothes with funny sayings that were popular during the 70s and my first reaction was in part a memory of those posters.

was difficult for you to understand.

I am sorry..but is anyone here who is debating this black or have family members who are black? Curious...

I know Jillio has black ancestors but the others?
