Baldwin Street ( Dunedin, New Zealand )

Baldwin Street, in a quiet suburban part of New Zealand's southern city of Dunedin, is reputed to be the world's steepest street. It is located in the suburb of North East Valley, 3.5 kilometres northeast of Dunedin's city centre. At its maximum, the slope of Baldwin Street is approximately 1:2.86 (19° or 35%) - that is, for every 2.86 metres travelled horizontally, the elevation rises by 1 metre. Baldwin Street's claim to fame has caused some controversy after it emerged that the original entry in the Guinness Book of Record.

Canton Avenue ( Pittsburgh, United States )

Canton Avenue is quite possibly also the steepest street in the world, as Baldwin Street in New Zealand, which is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's steepest, has an officially-recorded grade of 35%, two percent less than Canton's. However, Baldwin Street's angle continues over a longer trajectory.

Canton Avenue has a grade of 37%, meaning that for every 100 ft (30 m) of horizontal distance traveled, the elevation changes by 37 ft (11 m)

Waipio Valley ( Hawaii )

Waipiʻo Valley is a valley located in the Hamakua District of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. "Waipiʻo" means "curved water" in the Hawaiian language.

A steep road leads down into the valley from a lookout point located on the top of the southern wall of the valley. The road gains 800 vertical feet (243.84 m) in 0.6 miles (0.9 km) at a 25% average grade, with steeper grades in sections. This is a paved public road but it is open only to 4 wheel drive vehicles. If classified as a road, it would be the steepest road of its length in the United States and possibly the world.

Canton Street in Pittsburgh? Thats not far from where I grew up! Woot! Just image, if there were sheet of ice on that street, going down? Good luck, Going up, good luck too!

Would be a roller coaster ride if your brakes failed!....and yeah...perhaps a skateboarder's paradise too....

right theres where im heading to in October, any one want to come along for a ride in the campervan?> (small cheap one about the size of the VW Kombi or actual that LOL)...and weeds available.....

the Waipiʻo Valley would be an excellent place to test drive a 4 wheel drive before buying.....

if it can't hack it, don't buy...

If you've got disc brakes....:giggle:

Know whats that I love Pittsburgh? Plenty of places to ride sled! Oh what a rush! No safety gear on me! No nothing and thank God I never got into accident.

hell they should use this in Hostel 6 (of number 5 hasnt be made yet)

No problem? Okay, you know ice skating is made of blade of steel, right? These studs are made of steel, going at 37% grade, Ice WILL WIN period! You will DEFINETLY have problem!

Ice skating and studs are not exactly same. Ice skatings are just straight metal and studs are like "paw nail" Check again.

Imagine mowing the grass on some of those streets....way too dangerous for me

None of these streets are in areas where it snows. (I think) That would be catastrophic.

35% grade? That's too cute. San Francisco have several streets that are 30%'s grade. Check out Bradford above Tompkins (41% grade) it is the steepest road in San Francisco. Some people said India are the worst steepest road in the world on mountains, even trucks drive passing through with narrow streets.

Whoa, this makes the roads on the Appalachia look easy peasy.

That is interesting. I know in SF have a long steepest. In Colorado have a steepest road on the mountains. I had been go to Appalachia mountains with long steep road. I was not scare of steepest road. It look like a slide and roller coaster.
