The new Phonak Naida Q, I really want it!

So far, so good. Seemed to be able to hear/understand speech better, even at a noisy pizza bar/restaurant where we had lunch today. No perfect, of course (don't expect that), but seemed better.

Its interesting how easily we forget how we heard in the past (how bad was my hearing when I started trialing new hearing aids).

Phonak Naida IX UPs"

Are those percentages your speech discrimination/sentence/word scores? If so, those are ****ing amazing scores.
For testing to get a CI, I thought I had pretty great hearing with a PTA of 105-110 and speech understanding of 5 and 11% (of words presented at 110 dB in quiet in a sound booth with hearing aids).

I can't remember if those are my current #s, but I do still have good #'s - for words. I would love to have the sentence test that is given for CI evaluations. I asked my Audi if she did sentences and she said yes. But the sentence(s) were just a recording that said "Say the word ..." That's not a sentence test. smh

Yesterday was another good day. Went to Philly and met up with a couple of train friends. I sat in the back seat of the car and could understand most of what was being said by the guys up front. Ate at a place with outdoor seating along a busy road (with occasional wind) and heard well.

Did you do your scores with your SPs? My scores went down by two thirds with SPs. They massively improved with UPs. I never understand why CI centres do the tests with SPs.

All I can think of is if that series was current when the testing was developed and staying with it allows comparison to the very early tests.

I would think they'd use the UP's also because they are the most powerful. Being evaluated for CIs means making sure a patient cannot get benefit from the most powerful HAs available.

SPs being speech processor(s)? I only have one ear implanted but a month after activation my PTA with the implant was 20dB (except for a 30 dB in the high frequency because I had never heard that before and didn't like it at all) and speech scores were something like 88% on AZ bio and I did so well on the speech in noise test that they had to increase the noise level to just 5dB below speech before I got less than 90% correct.
I used to have my one month scores framed but we just moved so i don't know where they are right now.

Basically I went from understanding or guessing one to three words in a hundred in quiet with high powered hearing aids to being able to understand Nearly every word with my CI in noise.

The CI isn't perfect but it is so much better than hearing aids.

EDIT- I just realized you meant Naida SP hearing aids. The gain difference between the SP and UP is like 8 dB so when I maxed out the SPs and still couldn't understand words presented at 100 dB it was generally agreed that hearing aids weren't helping at all.
Just look at my audiogram in my profile pic. Even with hearing aids I was hearing at 50-60 dB at the best.
