The Neighbor....

Just because there is a mess, does not equal..pests, virus, rodents, and all that. Do not judge, lest you be judged too.
My neighbor was hoarding her feces on her bathroom walls! That will have all kind of germs and bugs ! This is not judging it's stating a fact . The whole bathroom had to be gutted , the niece had to rent huge dumpster to haul off all the crap her aunt been hoarding . I know the woman was ill and it was too bad she went off her meds .

<waste of my breath, I know>
He was probably talking to Laura or the others, not you.

if the 'mess' is there long enough.. yes it does and can equal rodents, pests, mold even. Especially in the kitchen. Food containers, dishes and utensils that hadn't been washed in..months. A giant pile of soda cans next to the couch (and a huge stain of soda on the carpet). Depends on what kind of 'mess' one thinks about.

I don't think anyone... or most of us anyway is judging. I'm not as it is someone I know and have known for 30+ years. All I want to do is help but it can only go so far. As Calvin said many times mental illness (including depression, anxiety disorder etc)plays a big factor and the person may want help but doesn't know how to get it or how to cope.

You should leave her alone.
The woman I talking about moved out alone time ago. If she still lived here and I knew how bad her unit looked I would had reported it b/c it was a fire hazard
and a health risk with feces all over the bathroom walls !

A hoarder may not hurt anyone else but they are risking others of a fire hazard, disease and other things especially apartment, condo which can spread.

My neighbor door was only about 8 fts from my door and we all use the same door to exit and entrance the building and to think everyone was touching a door knob that was being used by a person that was hoarding her feces ! I went to visit her at the nursing home she was getting rehab at , she was going better and was going to move into low income housing . This is an illness that seem to go unnoticed until it get out of control. :(

Why all the labels? I say leave them alone, they are not hurting anyone.

They are hurting people with their unsafe living environment and she poses a risk to the whole building with her hoarding. Thankfully though she doesn't put her unwashed dishes or food about and it seems clean in that respect. Still, I do wish we had the money to move or I'd do it Monday but most people can't just pick up and go. Even if I had the money, I'm a gun owner and we have to give notice two months in advance that we're moving to the police and criminal history board. For now, it appears I'm stuck. God willing, my neighbor will break down and get help. I wish animal breeders did home safety checks but I don't think it's going to happen.

In terms of "not hurting anyone...." people who hoard and have pets are also hurting their pets - I'm talking about true hoarding, with un-sanitary conditions, no fresh air, no cleaning, not letting anybody in etc - not just someone who may be "un-tidy" or has clutter/typical messiness....

There had been horrible cases of people that hoard pets , they'll have too many pets in an crate that covered with dogs or cats feces and dead dogs were found too , one house had to be knocked down b/c it was unfit to live in anymore . One hoarder had so many cats they had to send to more than one animal shelter and some cats were too sick to save. And there was small children living in some houses . My neighbor was buying cheap perfume by the gallon ! I saw her with a bottle once, I didn't
even know you could buy perfume by the gallon !

Thank you, Dogmom. You explained best, as to what I was thinking. Everyone else: excuse me. :)

Unfortunately in cases of hoarding it automatically does.

I never heard of the show , that is why I asked if it was a reality show. I can't stand realize shows ! My neighbor was running of room to hoard crap in her unit so she was putting it in her car.

Gosh, that sounds like severe case of hoarding, although not an unusual one. hoarders sometimes move out of their house
to move into another if they run out of space.. :O

Sadly my neighbor was running out of space , she could no longer walk into her two bedrooms and had to sleep in the kitchen and I guess the trunk of her car
was packed too b/c her was hoarding junk in the back seat of her car. She didn't have a phone so I guess her niece came to see how she was doing and found
out bad it had gotten.
