But who is getting rich? PFH is talking about Doctors getting rich from Deaf people.

If you want to complain about money at the education of deaf schools, then what about all the costs for therapy for those who were mainstreamed?

According to everyone here, kids at Deaf schools get the same quality and availability of therapy as a student who is mainstreamed...can't have it both ways.

Also, surgeons carry hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of student loans and have spent dozens of years in school learning to do very difficult, delicate and potentially dangerous procedures, why shouldn't they get paid more than my mailman?

well worth it because it would cost 50x to support a deaf adult for rest of his life

I am talking about therapy for emotional issues. There was a study posted in a thread a few years ago how more deaf people who grew up around hearing people only had to seek therapy.

But that Deaf adult gets interpreters and VRS, paid by someone else, for the rest of their life too. Not to mention VR as well as SSDI if they quailfy. All the research has shown that implanted individuals "cost less" in a lifetime than "traditional Deaf"...(but you guys don't believe the research because hearing people are out to get Deaf people :roll:)

I would say that the numbers are actually probably pretty even.

They get their tuitions paid off faster than teachers do.

I would love to read that post.

I have always heard that there is a huge deficit in ASL using and culturally Deaf-understanding therapists.

I think society should stop worrying about how much it costs to provide any child an equal opportunity to education. These days, there is too much cost cutting and those children who need the services are getting hurt.

IMO - 1 capable deafie is equivalent to say... 5 useless hearies. Marlee Matlin? probably equivalent to 2,000+ useless hearies and she makes more.

All for more reason to spend money to nurture deaf kid into self-sufficient deaf adult.

Shel is saying that more money is needed to be spent on those who were mainstreamed, and I have to agree with that.

surgeons? already paid it off way before we can. and mailman doesn't even have a college tuition debt to pay off.

I feel that's not the impression I see from the society. it's more like the society scorning the wealthy for living too frivolously when their wealth could have been better spent on education especially schools with terrible budget cuts
