Text+ ??

Never used it before. I've used Google Voice for free texting.

I wonder what the catch is with Text+? How do they make any money?

That's why I'm asking...how do they make moolah....

One of my friend sent this to me because she's letting me know that she got new phone number using Text+ on her cell phone. That is how I found out how she get it for free??? She doesn't have to pay $45 anymore (tilting my head)...okaaaaay

I don't think she read the terms of use........it's an app, if she doesn't pay her phone bill, no more service, no more app. Looks likes it's only "free" to other numbers in that stupid app. I can see maybe doing this if you had a tablet and wanted to use it like a phone.....but on a cell??? I don't get it.

Interesting. They're probably hoping enough customers text from the app to non-app.

Is that a way to run a business? "Hey, we have this app you can use that is totally free if you make sure your friends use the app, too! Oh, but please make sure you text your friends who don't use the app, so we can make some money, too. K, thanks." lol

Might make sense if you had a wireless capable phone that you didn't have cell phone service on. Otherwise, yeah, if it already on cell phone service on it... what's the point?

Just last weekend I was in a place where I could not get cell service, but could get wifi. I downloaded a different app and used it to keep in touch until I figured out that roaming was turned off on my phone. It saved my neck to be able to use the app. I didn't need it anymore after turning roaming back on, but I'm glad that there was an app.

Text+ follow-up

I've been using this app for over 6 months now on my Windows Phone.
You can send TXT messages to non Text+ people via Wireless (good when you have no cell phone service, but have Wifi access), or through your data plan. This is makes it so you don't have to pay for a Text Messaging FEATURE on your plan.
I'm not sure what people are talking about when they complain that the receiver still gets dinked for a Text Message (TM) unless they have the App... Of course they do! They would anyway, even if you sent it normally through your TM plan...??
The whole idea is that the person with the Text+ app is given the ability to send a TM to anyone without having to have a TM plan or get charged for sending a TM. You are also given a phone number that is for TM only that other people can send you TM on.
The way they make money on this service is that you can't receive phone (voice) calls on this number unless your pay $$. So far, I like this service--the only thing I don't like is:
*If you don't use it often, they will 'release' your temperary number and you have to get another one
*I usually have to send people the text along with a disclaimer telling them that this is my TM only number and not to call me on it.
*Can't create groups on this version of text+ (hopefully they update it). I like sending groups of people TMs during the Holidays. They only let you create groups with people that are already text+ users and most of the people in my contact list don't have text+

I have been using text+ on my AT&T (TAP) phone for almost two years. It works great and I almost never use the paid for messaging service through AT&T.
