Hello from Houston, Texas
My name is Donna. I am severely hard of hearing due to Congenital Nerve Deafness. It was passed on to me by my mom; who got it from her dad. I currently wear behind the ear hearing aids in both ears. My hearing results in 2006 were 75% loss in the left ear and 65% loss in the right ear. I am 41 years old and at the rate my hearing loss is I will probably be deaf or almost deaf by the time I am 50 years old. I am what is called a DLIL.. or "deaf later in life". I can hear very little when my hearing aids are out. My hubby says my hearing is getting worse even with the hearing aids I got 2 years ago I find it to be depressing as well as frustrating because I am new to Houston and do not know any deaf or HOH people here.
I am not currently working. But, I am working with a place in Houston that helps disabled people find work. It is very hard being deaf/HOH and finding employers who see my ABILITY and not my disability:roll:
This website is truly a godsend to us deaf and HOH people. I finally found a place where people can truly understand the ups and downs we deafies and HOHs go through.
I look forward to meeting all of you.
Donna
