When I was a kid, I used to run around my neighborhood with a rifle stock. Just the stock. The barrel and action was taken out a long time ago. It was effectively a piece of wood in the shape of a rifle. Some friends and I would play war games with it and water pistols. Never had any problems. It was normal. Of course, that was late-1980's--early-1990's North Dakota. Different place, different time.
