Hello! I have an odd question. I am learning and teaching my 4 month old son ASL as a second language. We don't currently know anyone in the Deaf community, though when he's older we plan to find a group to help him learn. Would it be okay for us to come up with a name sign for him just to use around family? His name starts with an R, and when he cries it sounds like (that's the part where it would be innapropriate for someone who is Deaf) he is saying "Hey! Hey! Hey!". So we though the letter R moving away from the forehead like the sign for Hi. Is that already a sign? Of course, when meeting someone new, we would teach him to fingerspell his name until he is given a name sign. Thank you for your patience with us newbies!
