personally, i don't think there's *any* excuse for the behavior of these teens except for sheer callousness.

bingo. my thought exactly. I just want to go to them and shove their pizza at them.
okay. i think i found what i was looking for. it's possible that these teens could have narcissistic personality disorder (npd) or antisocial personality disorder (apd).
Narcissism and Psychopathy: Antisocial Behaivor: Degrees of Personality or Mental Disorder?
what are the chance of having 2 teens together with same condition?
probably more likely than you think.

Nah. These teens probably watched too much of action movies that they just wanted to enjoy the real action while they re getting their food.
There is no rationale for their actions when there are others who happen to be around and trying to save car accident victims.
i don't understand how action movies can cause two teenagers to be so callous. i bet they have a mental illness which explains why they are so insensitive to the needs of others.
OK we aren't professionals and we haven't met these two teens personally, so lets stop trying to speculate and diagnose these two as anything but complete knuckleheads.
In the US you can be held liable in court if you are involved in an accident and if the other party is unable to contact for help, and you are but don't, I think that's something along the lines of fleeing the scene or failing to contact authorities to report an accident. If the other party had died because of their inactions then they would have likely been charged with vehicular manslaughter.
It is possible that teens watch too much of "Jackass: the movie" whereas people getting hurt physically are being glorified and meant to be funny.
The only reason I find Jackass mildly amusing is because these guys WANT to inflict pain on each other, and they all agree that they have to take their licks and go on and call it entertainment. A lot of their stunts are planned and staged where pain is purposely inflicted so they bring it upon themselves when they break something. I'm sure in their contract it is written than MTV is in no shape or form responsible for any injuries that may occur due to the idea behind the show which saves MTV from lawsuits and in their shows they also warn viewers not to duplicate the stunts themselves and that MTV nor Jackass the show is responsible for any harm for not heeding their advice NOT to engage in such behavior. But alas teens are stupid and believe they are indestructible and will do it anyway. Im willing to bet that a number of judges have already thrown out numerous lawsuits against Jackass and MTV when someone got hurt trying to duplicate a stunt, especially after seeing the warning to NOT do so.
Somehow Im sure the parents of these teens will eventually find a therapist that will justify their behavior as some sort of 'rare' personality disorder or mental disorder which sadly makes a mockery of those who really do have such ailments and really would rather not have it so they could lead a relatively normal life.
if the parents do find a tdoc who makes such a diagnosis as a means of excusing the teens' behavior, then that therapist is unethical and should lose their license.
besides, who are WE to say whether or not these teens are mentally ill? only a trained tdoc or pdoc can determine that.
if truth be told, i feel the same level of frustration towards people who try to use bipolar as an excuse for uncontrollable anger, rage and/or an inability to deal with life's problems (i.e. "i couldn't control my temper and acted that way because i'm bipolar."). bipolar disorder is a *chemical imbalance* -- not an excuse for bad behavior.
when people truly diagnosed with bipolar have problems with impulse control, judgement and/or anger, it is because they have a chemical imbalance that cannot be helped. in other words, they do not choose to act out on these behaviors.
