Australian teenagers involved in a fatal car crash sat down and ordered takeout food as rescuers fought to save an 82-year-old man and his 72-year-old partner, News.com.au reported.

The cars collided at a Gold Coast roundabout in Miami. The teenagers were riding in an unregistered Suburu WRX with an unlicensed driver.

Residents near the roundabout were outraged when they came to the aid of the elderly couple and saw the teenagers standing motionless on the sidewalk. They said none of the teens attempted to help.

"They just stood there, and then they sat down and then someone dropped Maccas off to them," a witness told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Using the Jaws of Life to cut the roof off the elderly couple’s van, the woman suffered from abdominal and leg injuries, while the man suffered from fatal chest injuries.

After the police interviewed the teenagers on the scene, the driver was charged with obstruction while the other teens were arrested but not charged.

WTF. OK you know what? I will bring lawn chair and order a pizza if they ever get into accident.... or their homes on fire. :mad2:

ok, so what were the teenagers supposed to do, pry the car open with force of will? put themselves in danger because it was the right thing to do?

I'd order takeout for the time it takes to go through the fun with police. they may have been stupid and driving without a license probably caused the accident, but that didn't make it their obligation to risk their own safety instead of letting rescuers do their jobs.

how about not being a dumb asshole by sitting and watching like it's a movie? Would you like to see me to sit on a lawn chair, ordering pizza to watch your house being burn down? People dying out there is not an entertainment nor should be treated like an entertainment. Those teens lack any sense of respect. They probably have no class either.

They were involved in the accident, NOT the public standing around watching morbidly. Would having 'class' imply screaming and crying, or pacing around since sitting does not have 'class'?

We've established that as untrained teenagers they cannot pry a crushed car open.

So the untrained residents aided the elderly while the teens simply sat there and ordered pizza.... I'm sure that's a nice picture.

Hmm, There's always more to the story than it really is portraying for.

While the teenagers may have not done anything as the article stated but I have to wonder, Did they call the 911 (or law enforcement) in regards to the accident and just sat there to wait until the rescuers came by?

While I do think the teens took an order from the fast food restaurant just to sit there to watch the thing unfold is being far-fetched. In U.S., That would be considered leaving the scene and one can be charged for that.

Yes but how can anyone eat in a situation like that? are they that callous?

I wouldn't know. I mean, I know I couldn't do that in a situation like this. If you ask me, it's far-fetched.

given the way some teenagers act nowadays (which in many cases is much different than 20 or 30 years ago when you probably wouldn't have heard of something like this happening), i can't say that i'm surprised by this.

They may have also been suffering from "Shock Syndrome".

byrdie, i couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, but if these teens were actually suffering from shock syndrome, they wouldn't have been able to move -- let alone order fast food.

I don't think that "shock syndrome" is the correct word or not. It was the first thing that popped into my mind.

You know how it is when an individual experiences a traumatic event? PTSD? Who knows--but I think there is more to the picture than that's being told.

i understand what you mean, but even if these teens had ptsd (which i also doubt), they still would have been unable to call for fast food. however, i agree with you that there's probably more to the story than what has already been told.

Shell Shock? It can be called as "Disaster Syndrome" which is same as shock. Symptoms are docility, disoriented thinking, and a general insensitivity to cues from the immediate environment. Can also be called as "Post Traumatic Shock Syndrome" instead of Stress. bunch of many medical terms out there for same thing and I don't know the distinctive difference between those.

actually, someone who has ptsd has an *oversensitivity* to cues in their environment. (i.e. flashbacks, etc.)
