Teaching ASL to toddlers?

Book for toddlers/babies

Hi,

I taught my son sign language from about 7 months and he can do about 30 signs now (he is 2) and he makes up some signs of his own too :) I am busy teaching my daughter to sign as well. She is now 9 months and can do the sign for milk and dog. I think the most important part about teaching them to sign is to be consistent in doing the sign. So for example, if you want to teach the sign for eat, then every time you give him something to eat or ask if he wants something to eat (basically every time you would say the word eat) then do the sign. After a while he will get that he can use the sign for eat. Being 2 it is actually easier because you can take his hand and do the sign for him. Make it as fun as possible and be excited about doing the signs and really give praise when he does a sign.

Hope that helps a bit.

I also struggled to find a fun book about sign language that is interesting for toddlers so I created one for my kids.

You can check it out here on blurb. Just search for Sign with Mo.
