Teacher for the Deaf

You don't say where you're from. I'm also looking to teach too. But I'm going to start with a Masters in Teaching, plus credential -- and then transfer to SDSU (if possible) for the specialist credential

In the state of California, you must get the Specialist credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing. There are a few schools to get that from (CSUN, CSU Fresno, SDSU).

If you say what state you're from, then perhaps I can help you further. PM me.

Bachelor's Degree?! Man, do I want that? I don't think so LOL. Eventually, yes, but just to get into a deaf school teaching? Come one really? Anyway, but VamPyrox, I meant in the other forum, not this one. No one answered it, so I thought about posting it here. I can't type the forum name as you know it will be bleeped out.

Reba, what if I want to move to another state...who knows where? I'd like something stable. If it is different a little, then I guess it's not bad.

I just wonder what degrees are they that would allow teaching. I guess that I will try contacting some deaf schools.

Actually most schools require a BA, plus a credential (depending on where the school is located).

HKG, There's nothing wrong per se with parental involvement....but overdoing it can be overkill......and I see a lot...and I mean a lot of hyperinvolved parents being attracted to oralism. There's nothing wrong with having an involved parent, but these are the types of parents who enroll their children in prestigous preschools and who buy toys that raise their kids' SAT scores and who overschdule and hyperprogram their kids with "enriching" activties..(they are the ones who don't let their kids just hang out and relax and just be a kid) The kids of these types of parents would be sucessful no matter if their parents chose: oral, cued, auditory-verbal, TC or sign alone, or if they attended a really crappy school or a prestigous prep school.
The kids who Sign or who do TC, tend not to have involved parents. They are the ones who really really need the most assistance in terms of education and therapy and all that b/c they are the ones who've fallen through the cracks. Understand what I'm getting at now?

Almost forgot......I know you said you don't want to go through years and years of working on a BA but, I seem to recall that you said you went to college before but didn't finish up. In that case, you don't have to worry about those ANNOYING core courses, but can work on the fun relavant to your area of study courses, and be done in one or two years!
