Surprise

Are tattoo warnings and DNR's legally enforceable for medical situations? That seems like rather shaky legal grounds.

From what I've found using google it's a solid maybe that a tattoo will suffice as a bracelet replacement. The problem is that it's not commonplace and in an emergency situation it's kind of easy to overlook an innocent tattoo. Especially if it's something that looks decorative rather than an official medical notice.

But oh well, it's your body and if you'd rather have a tattoo than wear a distracting bracelet go for it.

This was a recent discussing at a cochlear meeting with first responders.

Recently, in a discussion
(cochlear community meeting) the first responders even stated that those tattoos are nice to see immediately and the best side is the left arm, between wrist and elbow!

Went to my doc today to get meds refilled, The nurse checking my vitals was really into my tat. She sat there looking at it and commented on it several times and really liked it. Said she hasnt really seen anyone yet with a medical tattoo but stated she would pay more attention to them as it is a great idea in case of an emergency. She said the medical emblem really set it apart and caught her attention and drew her to reading it. So, long story short... It Works !

What happen if MRI is only medical necessity to save the life?

The CI could be removed and re-implant after MRI.

Did you put your blood type on it too? It's a really cool tattoo.

Depends. The new N6 can tolerate a lower T MRI machine, but they have to wrap your head tightly using plastic covers to compress the magnet so they dont flip or rip out. Then they have to check for polarity reversal after in case they did flip or migrate then they have to do a surgical procedure to flip or move the magnet back into place. So it all has to be done under guidance of cochlear.

Sure, I hopefully you don't need MRI.

I have older CI (N22) - no MRI, period unless it is removed completely.

N22 was from 1983 to 1997.

That's a cool tattoo! I am glad you are happy with it :)

Thanks Rio, WDYS yes just havent done it yet.
Fox, some are nervous with the procedure and will either be put to sleep or remove the magnet anyways... everyone is different. I know yours is an older model and not sure if just removing the magnet will help or if the whole implant has to come out? Ive heard stories go both ways now that they have the low telsa mri machines it helps some people.
