Stupid accidents

sallylou, sorry to read about your accident at the beginning of the thread:aw:
reminded me of a very similar situation I had with a soapy knife - the week before my wedding! I was using the new set of knives <those knife sets in the block> that we had received as an early wedding gift. I was at the apartment hubby had when he first moved to here and we were engaged. I just made dinner and was cleaning up. I cut myself with a new knife from the set! I thought - no biggie, I'll just wash off and run it under some warm water and eventually it'll clot, fine - well - WRONG - I held it under the water there and held it and held it and held it and held it and it just kept bleeding and bleeding - it was the tip of my finger. So I got some towels and it bled through the towels...so I got hubby and said - think we have to go to E.R. I applied pressure and held my arm up while hubby drove us to E.R. and at about 7a t night and we sat in E.R. and waited for someone to come and look at my finger. Finally someone came and said I had cut it real deep and it would probably heal better with stitches, as opposed to taking a chance and not doing the stitches - which he suggested we could try. So I had about 5 stitches and this huge bandage that went around the finger and up my wrist.
That was for a few days - then I had just my whole finger bandaged. It was all bandaged up for the wedding and you can see it in some of the shots, though I admit I did try to hide it a bit.

Wirelessly posted (droid)

It's surpisingly easy to cut yourself with those knives. I'm so careful using them but I got careless and rushed while washing. Glad that you're all healed up. 5 stitches on the tip of your finger is impressive. LOL

Wow lots of painful accidents.

I been hospital 3 times for cracked small finger cos my sister pushed me garden steps, then years later cracked wrist cos my sister pushed me while I was using roller blades and years later I cracked other wrist playing goalkeeper in football game (UK football) and it was freezing and raining heavy and I saved the ball but cracked wrist cos boy kicked the ball with full force.

Had to have plaster for both wrist and only bandge for small finger.

Thankfully I never cut myself to need stitches.

Ill keep the story short, At age 13 or 14, after I wrecked my bro's bike, I forced my mother to take me to hospital b/c I knew my wrist was broken. After doctor x-rayed, female nurse assistant told my mother it's not broken b.c I wasnt crying. She came back 3 mins later and told me it is broken with a shock look on her face. I wore a cast up to my arm-pit for six weeks. It was hell.

If you look closely at my very recent picture, you can see a huge scar on my chin, 35 stitches. I got into a brawl bar fight with 3 bikers. It was fun. They called me a deaf fuck. Not cool

I got 4 stitches on my left nipple. It doesnt function at all and my right nipple cant handle cold very well b.c of frostbite. talking about weird nips.

Back in 2007, I almost died. My appendix ruptured. I waited like 3 0r 4 days after it was ruptured to go the hospital. Very stupid of me but I had no idea. I still own them money b.c I didnt have health insurance.

I suffered major concussion at work and didnt miss one day of work. I liked the bonus money. :)

when I was prob 12 or 13, I got out of bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. when I returned I had forgotten that I had my music stand up next to my bed (my parents made me play the flute and the clarinet from 5th to 9th grade, because the doctors said it would "help" my hearing... hahaha... not in the slightest) and when I went to get back in bed... I ended up almost skewering my eye out... had to be rushed to the hospital, and have stitches on my eye... That was one of the scariest times for me... because of how much I rely on my eyesight... and I couldn't tell if the doctor said you will be able to see again, or you wont be able to see again... those 4 weeks with only one functional eye, having to eye drops in and everything... it was scary... and very hard... but trying to explain to my parents what happened while I couldn't see... not fun.

"because the doctors said it would "help" my hearing... hahaha... not in the slightest) " That is really funny. That had to hurt like hell having stitches on your eye. I am glad you did not lose your eye sight , did you keep on taking flute lessons after that?

Where I work at the Nursing Home. I work in the dietary department and have been using the knife. Yea they are really sharp. I even cut my fingers and it bleed alot. I had to put the band aid on so tight for about 1 to 2 hrs then loosen it up. It help but one time I lost a bit of my skin and it grow back.

I havent cut my fingers since last year cuz I havent use much of the knife. :D

Okay - for three off the top of my head.

1. At 16, I slipped and fell carrying groceries at my front doorstep. Knocked my knee into the concrete and knee-cap slipped out of place, leg bent backwards and I tore all ligaments. At the same time, I slammed my head into the closed door and gave myself a concussion. Not a pretty sight.

2. Playing kiddie baseball with my kids and the neighbor's kids, one of them hit I ball and I tried to stop it, by stepping on it. Managed to break my ankle.

3. While working as a CNA at a local hospital when I was 17 through the DCT program at school, I was changing the sheets on a bed-bound patient how managed to pull out their own IV and sick me with the needle. All tests for 3 years showed I suffered no ill effects.

Hey, you! Good to see you back!

Been in several accidents but this one takes the cake in a way. :)

Went to a tennis clinic so I could learn how to play.

Went to hit the ball and stepped on the ball. Next thing I knew I was on the floor clutching my wrist.

Yep, broke my wrist trying to play tennis.

Suffice to say I never tried to play tennis since.

It was the toe nail. My toe nail was so swollen with blood that my dad burned a hole in it to let the blood out.

Ick, so the nail bed was exposed and burned? OMGosh. I would have died.

 I was just three. I think he used some kind of thin hot metal to burn hole in toe nail.

Was it worth being wired for six weeks? :giggle:

Well, I would have felt really bad if I had broken it since it survived both my grandmother and my mother. But would I let go of it if it happened again? Hell, yeah!

I broke my middle right finger back in college. I was stupid enough to be signing to a friend with one hand while trying to catch a self-closing door before it closed. It closed, anyway. On my middle finger right in the door jamb. Erk. And I was playing intramural volleyball that season. They weren't so happy with me.

Ouch! I bet it jarred every time you came in contact with the ball.
