Learn from ur mistake, and remember how you feel and how ur Mother feels....time will take care of everything. Seems she is very hurt so making a very special effort not to do this again....Feel sure in time, she will somewhat feel better, but assuring her that you are doing everything to not make this "mistake" again.

I will probably do that on monday. I don't have school on monday, but my dad and my sister are home from school/work. So what I might do is maybe clean the house a little and wash the dog and get flowers for her.

I can't begin to write just how much math has been an issue in my life, and yes, I felt like a failure..but then I contacted an LD specialist like my psychologist recommended (his son had a LD too and he thought I sounded like him). Getting validation that you have a problem is liberating because then you can take the next step - to resolve it. Coolgirl, if you remember nothing else from this thread - if you try your best always, you have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm sure you're an intelligent, beautiful young lady with talents you haven't begun to discover. Don't beat yourself up over a subject that's not going to have much bearing in your life. Life is more than a classroom.

Thanks, that last 2 sentences helped me have a sense that i'm going to be okay. But life is more than what i'm going through also..

I'm a little confused about why you didn't know you were failing until you got that email. Usually by the time a student has two grades he or she realizes that help is needed.

I'm glad that you're not giving up, and that you're trying math again. :) I hope you will be a little more pro-active about tracking your progress, and not hesitate to get tutoring help.

Did you take a placement exam before you started school? If so, you shouldn't have been placed in a math course that was beyond your capabilities. Some students have to take non-credit "developmental" courses in math before they're ready to take the for-credit ones. That's another possibility to check.

I didn't always have a sense when I was failing my classes - sometimes you get blindsided. As for placement exams, most schools couldn't care less if you're over your head, you're just expected to "get it."

Well here's the thing, I've been checking my grades a lot online on my school's "student portal" on their website and it said i was passing all of my classes up until my math teacher emailed me saying that I had an F in that class and i should consider dropping out, which I did. And I honestly thought I was passing my math class. My two classes, Reading and Writing, i'm passing.

In high school I did take a placement test for sinclair community college before i started college since my parents (yes, my parents) enrolled me into sinclair and they recomennded me to take DEV classes (developmental eduactional vocational) and with all this drama today, its making my mind mentally exhausted. and I wish i can turn off reality for a few minutes so i can take a breather.

Hey Coolgirl, thought I'd give you a tip concerning taking your next math course- Learn the presented material before learning the next. The material you study usually can be applied to the next lesson. Obviously, if you try to "get back on track" in the middle of your course, you will be confused without learning the previous material. Learn it as you go, you should be fine. :)

well - if it's not required by your major, then there's no need to take it. your parents are not the students... you are.

since it's an Associate Degree which is a 2-years program, your major has already started.

That's what i'm planning on doing when I go down to DC to visit my boyfriend and go to homecoming with him at Gallaudet. I really need it. And i hope I can go after what had happen.

That might not be a bad Idea. I still have the quizzes that I recieved from my teacher, My tests are being kept from my teacher for the whole year. Plus the homeworks as well.

You're parents recommended your classes? Usually your academic advisor does that, in accordance with your placement test results. At our college, the placement test scores determine which courses the student is eligible to take. That is, if the scores are below the cutoff number, the student must take developmental courses.

That's true. But, The placement test i took before i started college recommended me that I should take it. And my parents already placed me in that. I'm only there for 2 years, possibly one year if i can go to gallaudet next year. But i'm afraid about doing that since i have to retake the same class next term and my mom thinks i'll be further behind because I'm suppose to be taking an algebra class in the spring. this fall i'm taking 2 basic math classes, Basic math class part 1, and basic math class part 2, and each term lasts for 8 weeks instead of 16 weeks because All ohio schools have changed semesters this year, which is pretty dumb because it kinda messes up your whole plan for school.

I don't really know, I'm honestly confused about that. My parents are only following what sinclair's placement recommendations want me to do. and I can start my major in the next semester, which is Darkroom photography black & white.

Regardless of how it was determined, it looks like you're going to have to take the developmental courses. In the long run, that will be good for you. They will help you build a stronger academic foundation.

There is math included in photography, so be prepared.

oh boy..

I'm just mentally exhausted, because I put so much energy in trying to be motivated and positive for school. and If my dad does find out about this, he would be FUSING. like ENRAGED. And that is what i'm absolutely scared about. Because I hate to be around him when he's enraged. Like I'm taking this seriously about me failing my math class and having to drop out to avoid getting an F and retaking the class next term because my parents have to get more money out of their pocket to pay for this class again, but i wish they don't have to overreact about it. I haven't failed college yet and I'm not planning on failing college at all. I want to do good. But, my mom thinks i'm not putting into enough efforts for school. She's been afraid that I've been so lovesick about my boyfriend because i've been missing him. yeah I miss him but I do believe that school is important and that it's my number one priority. And that's what I'm making it my priority. I wish my parents can just realize that. Yeah I messed up, but I'm determined to not mess up again, but they have their doubts about me about it. They always do.

It's everywhere, trust me, there's no escaping it. It even shows up in courses that don't sound math related until you're in it....I never knew music was mathematical until I took a piano course for a humanities requirement. Now I know why one of Mozart's favorite books was about math.

I was involved with music for maybe 10 years. I took piano lessons for a few years, then started doing band for 7 years as a percussionist. I did okay with math in music, But i wasn't good at it. I was only good at playing music than doing math in music.

Not at UAB, they considered D as unsatisfactory grade so you have to take the course again.
