Stimulus Pkg at work

So hilarious that you're ranting about the stimulus package. Republicans voted against stimulus yet they show up at jobs and take "credit" for their jobs!

Even Arnie lashed at that hypocrisy... remember Arnie said, "Either voters can vote to increase taxes OR I will cut services." Voters voted no on tax increase so Arnie said, "Ok, then the services will be cut." Voters whined and they want him out!

Schwarzenegger Rips Romney, GOP For Stimulus Hypocrisy

Do a simple math - either cut taxes or spend less which means less services. You cannot have both ways.

No, I don't support on both of issues but depends on kind of something..

If government spending to funds to expands the broadband internet in rural area or have investment to expands the WiMax so I would support it.

In my opinion, government spending on improvement of expressway like repaved into smooth road or help broadband companies to expand the faster internet is part of gift for taxpayers.

Ah kinda of like when my daughter was little and I would give her money to buy a gift for me. I get it now

Dear Uncle Sam,

Thanks for the gifts, but really, you shouldn't have. Really

While I enjoy a nice things like a museum celebrating the relationship between horse and man as much as anyone, these things are just too expensive. I have to admit, studies on rats having sex sounds like a spellbinding read. But I don't have much time to read with looking for a job and all. I haven't even started the 2,500 page health care bill you gave me

Did you happen to get a gift receipt so that we can return them??

Sincerely
Gullible Taxpayer (your favorite nephew/neice...wink wink)
xoxo

ps. We would invite you to dinner but we can't afford to put food on the table

Txgolfer, I guess that I'm finished with argument about government spending.

Just let agreement to disagreement.

I wish Republicans would no show ribbon cuttings. Or speak out at them. But that would come off as petty. It's more an effort to show grace in defeat.

Also many of the projects are only partially funded by the stimulus. That would like real bad if they no showed a project that was co funded by private sector funds

The thread isn't about government spending as a whole......it's about the stimulus.

Are you saying you disagree that they 8000+ earmarks in the simulus package are wasteful?

At overall, it is wasteful, however I think some part of stimulus package has important spending.

Ummm...(hope it's not off topic), but need to ask if this is true?....I received an email awhile back...said that those who were on SSI/SSDI (seniors/dependents)...would receive $250.00 by March 31st (stimulus), due to their checks not being raised (economy) and the recession.....
Anyone have any info. about this?

Oh, they would have done without the stimulus money? May I ask you if you ever done any work for the government? Didn't I read that you did some work for FEMA? Where does that money come from? Hmmm?

No but I think I heard Joe Biden saying that last year.

Not sure what that has to do with the stimulus. But...

Yes, I was an independent contractor. I saw extremely reckless spending....and that was under Bush. Never said I was a fan of his either.
I never wrote an estimate for the government (did for ins. cos) they paid what they wanted to pay. I didn't seek them out, they sought me after work I did in Florida. There are not many contractors who have the resources to employ 20-30 people for nine month before getting paid. That's the reason many contractors didn't make the trip. At the end of 2006 I paid a tax bill that most people could retire on happily.

I have never said we need to end taxes. I said we need fair taxes and reasonable spending.

If you read ALL of my posts you will also find that my company always gave 10% to the church and 10% to charity.

Political suicide not to accept funds after the fact. I am sure if Obama would have committed to deducting unaccepted money from the bill more would have refused. But that's not how government works. Refused money would have been spent elsewhere so it becomes "cutting off your nose to spite your face" if you refuse the money

"Not sure what that has to do with the stimulus. But..."

It's about providing people jobs.. and it's made possible with stimulus.

"Yes, I was an independent contractor. I saw extremely reckless spending....and that was under Bush. Never said I was a fan of his either."

And how is Bush responsible for their irresponsible spending? You expect our president to evaluate every receipt?

But you're now saying that the government does really have its limit on what they can pay? If you paid a tax bill that most people could retire on happily, that means you can retire happily.

Should we get rid of P.O.? (I am not a fan of P.O. either - some people send P.O.'s for non-existent services and they get money... not just from government but also from companies).

"I have never said we need to end taxes. I said we need fair taxes and reasonable spending."

I believe our taxes are very fair but the top 5% should pay more taxes. We have lower taxes than most countries. We cannot keep asking for lower and lower taxes. It's bad when their deficit is growing. If we have surplus, sure but we don't.

Just today I saw McCain on a news program where he was all gung-ho about going over every line in the spending package if elected in 2012. Yeah, right. He would probably spend most of his time at the desk sleeping.

That's what Obama said as well. :)

Bold 1. How does a feild trip to Costra Rica provide jobs to Americans.

Bold 2. (A) I have stated government should have limited their spending then too.

(B) I am retired....Been retired since April of '08 (that too is in alot of posts) retired at age 42. Unless you count my grandfather for a couple of years part time, I have never had a boss. Capitalism.....I'm a fan.

Truth on earmarks:

"Earmarks aren't a new phenomenon. The Government Accountability Office has found examples dating back to the early years of the republic, including one from 1791 for $50,756.53 to be spent on "several objects" requested by Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. The money was targeted for "converting the Beacon of Georgia into a lighthouse and for the purchase of hydrometers," among other things.

While there have always been earmarks, their number grew exponentially between 1995 and 2006. That's partly because lawmakers began to use earmarks as a way to help incumbents who risked losing re-election, Ellis said. And part of it was a feedback loop: as earmarks grew, so did the ranks of lobbyists to secure them.

"More earmarks begat more lobbyists begat more earmarks," Ellis said.

Today, earmarks can number several thousand a year. But in the end, their total dollar amount typically represents less than 1% of the federal budget.

"People think big chunks of the federal budget are being shoved into earmarks, and it's just not the case," Konigsberg said."

...

"The impact of earmarks has been overemphasized; they're a red herring," Konigsberg said. "So much attention is paid to them and so little attention is paid to our long-term fiscal condition."

McCain, nice deflection. Focus on the other 99% of the federal budget. :)

Yep they have been around a while. And Obama promised to go line by line and delete them. Didn't happen.
