Firstly I suggest you look into it for your own knowledge. Stem cells offer a natural treatment. So it is unlikely to be 50 years because there will be no mechanical tweaking involved. Simple observations, innovations in delivery, and perhaps further research. But for today they may they may improve/reduce but not necessarily result in a complete restoration.
There were probably people like you arguing that CI shouldn’t be used in 1957 and the deaf/Hoh should remain deaf and live rather than risk their life in surgery. The point is this, with all scienfic breakthroughs initially there’s is risk. In 1957 the first CI patient risked his/her life but the suggery worked and CI is what they are today. Likewise today the is risk, however it has been limited in animal studies and a successful case - Chloe Sohl. And many others currently are being conducted.
Why would you race out to do something to yourself that cannot be reversed and that you have no idea what will happen?" CI’s cannot be reversed as it further damages the ear? Whereas stem cells are natural, i.e. they are found in the human body. Finally I want to let YOU know that I have checked this and no one has reportedly died or got worse from Stem cell treatment.
Good question, personally I would wait a little until 3 to ten pioneers have been successfully treated and documented. Including Chloe Sohl
Ermmm Okay I understand your rationale. But think of it another way if in 2010, eleven people get successfully treated with stem cells would you still get CI's? Im not for or against CI's BTW. Depending on your age, you might not get to see stem cells tested thousands of time if you happy with getting CI then I am happy for you
Im only deaf in one ear, but if I was deaf in both i would rather try Stem cells than CI's
