Staying in people's houses ?

We've been talking about putting up our master bedroom for a couple nights stay for people here. There are a lot of events and people do it without a problem. It would bring in a few bucks. But then there is the insurance and the possible bugs they would bring in. I guess that's why you do it through a service, though. We've seen it work and that's why it's not a big issue for us.

I was thinking that if someone is able to afford to own or rent a house, they've to be doing something right. I would want to learn a thing or 2 from them.

They either did the right thing or the wrong thing. If you have a steady job & income, and are able to make the payments on time, then you are doing it right....but, if you were one of those dumb people that let dishonest bankers get you a place that you can't afford, then you are not doing it right.

They've to be smart people to be able to do that.
Not always. I purchased a condo thinking that it was an investment. Lost money big time after 11 years. Lesson learned.

I will check into it. It is still spendy. Travelling has always required some flexibility on my part. Another way of saying cheep cheep I guess but it is astonishing how much more a person can do if they keep an eye out for savings. If they actually are a savings.
It is my observation that somehow things have a way of self leveling. Save over here and oh no an extra whack happens over there. Researching using the internet is sure a good deal. So is word of mouth.

So Jiro being as you have used this method are there any lessons learned?
Stories of what went wrong? What went right?

We either stay in our tent at a campsite, in a hotel, or with family.

I would taking camping in a tent with a nice campfire and being outdoors over staying at someone's house.

Unless that person lives in a 20 bedroom mansion and has a hot tub, fire pit, and pool in the backyard. :hmm:

We live in a safe neighborhood with a fenced-in backyard. A forest is behind our house and you can walk to the Mountain to Sea Trail easily. You can pitch your tent there. Champ lives next door and will alert you to any animals in the woods. Our next door neighbor has a fire pit thing that can easily be moved over the fence. Bathrooms are inside because we're sort of modern. We have more room here than in our tiny NY house and more land but somehow it's just not enough.

When I was in my 20s/30s, my ex-husband's and my idea of camping was renting an RV with a bath in a secure area, bringing a small b&w t.v. and playing Colecovision. I'd go fishing :) . I won't do that anymore. I prefer taking the major bumps on my motorcycle.

Actually, when my husband and I plan camping trips, we take our RV. My husband's bad back and knees caused him so much pain when we went camping in a tent.

I, on the other hand, can do both. :)

Some people have RV, or use conversion van, or camper truck for long trips. They don't necessary be used as a daily vehicle, but to be used on vacation trips.

I would nt stay at a stangers house. If it already dangerous at times to stay in house of peoepl you think you know, now a stranger? Ill go for some motel or sleep in car if necessary.

I use airbnb.com and it's great! very homely and cheaper. no problem.

thats a bed and breakfast, yeah if its rated and thru a reputable website source it should be OK...
i agree its more homely and well, chances are good ones are usually with a more affluent people, so bed bugs and all that rubbish would not be an issue

also advantages of this are you'd learn more about the area and would have good conversations with people who are keen to host and share thoughts...those who in the bed and breakfast business are more of a people's people.

Derek do more research, reputable or groups or ratings or voted or tips how to spot good ones or rates expected to pay and locations..good luck finding out more :)
