Statewide felony DUI law goes into effect

I have absolutely no problem with putting DUI offenders in jail if they're a danger to society.

Same here, I have no issues throwing them in the slammer. I hate drunks, sorry!

If it is in your state - sure, it is your decision to put them in.

In here, no, we are broke, anyway.

Also, jail and prison are different. Jail is fine for DUI until they are settled down but prison is for convicted of felony crime - no way.

I had to disagree with this one.

Back in early 70's with explosion of car manufactured, more and more people got drunk and drive, back then it was no big deal (Yes, I am serious and remembered these days), after excessive deaths during late 70's More and more state decided to beefed up DWI laws until about 90's more people now not tolerating drunk driving anymore... thus did help reduce drunk driving related death started to decline.

Recent test challenging Marijuana intoxicating driving showing startling evidences how bad drunk driving comparing to Marijuana which is almost nothing. This test happened show how badly lethal when it comes to drunk driving. There was three groups, all have to deal with fake baby showed up on the road, the first one was sober driving, didn't kill fake baby and the sober driver did stop and go around the baby, stoned driver of same person did almost exact same thing and was even more cautious than sober, and finally the last one was drunk with BAC of .10 or .12 I can't remmy which one but point is that same driver with drunk added got aggressive, bragging blah blah... guess what? that driver had no issue running over fake baby!
Finally, that test driver happened to be woman!

So, I support stricter DWI, DUI (Whatever you want to call it) laws all because drunk drivers acts equivalent to walking around populated town with loaded gun and finger in trigger, constantly waving the gun.... what does that means to you?

Don't drink and drive, if you must drink, find your own sober friend to drive you home or taxi for all it matters... trust me, its far cheaper than few hours of time with attorney and judges.

no it's not my decision. it's up to judge.

jail. prison. same sheet to me. bar's a bar. I'm not gonna sit around and wait for them to commit a felony and then put them behind the bars simply because of money. that's not how this country works.

I should be more specific - county/city jail and state prison.

The state prisons are very overcrowding and there are no more room for non-violent and low level crime anymore, also state isn't expanding more prison because we are broke. Anyone with convicted of felony crimes are usually transfer to state prison if they face imprisonment. If DUI case end up in manslaughter - of course, they will end up in state prison.

County/city jail is for misdemeanor and pre-trial, that where most DUI cases are held in local jail. I said that send DUI cases to state prison is overkill unless they commit more serious like manslaughter, just saying.

Seriously, alcoholic people should be forced admit to inpatient drug treatment and what wasting of our tax money for people who have no life and locked up in local jail or state prison, OMG!!!

See my post above.

I smoked marijuana before and got high - I don't feel safe to start the car because of confusion, hallucination and blurry vision. Do not drive at all if you know that any kind of drugs impact you to start the dangerous machinery.

I don't drink at all - due to medical issue.

The effect of cannabis actually varies greatly where alcohol has predictable result after taking specific amount of alcohol while cannabis, one can get damn high and thinks too much, usually happens to first timers or one that smokes seldom as compare to those who smoke daily wont feel as much as first time smoker. This is precisely why many who got caught driving and high walks out of court as not guilty. Thats due to the fact that there is no such thing as threshold on how much weed in one's body like alcohol where we recongize .08 BAC as drunk... with weeds, there is no way to measure... also statistically shows that those who smoke weeds, got into accident by only merely few percent higher than those have nothing in their system.

Theres been too many myth about cannabis, more and more evidences shows up which debunk the century old myths of reefer madness.

For those who never smoke weeds before and smoke for the first time, it could be too much, or act like an idiot, if given time and smoke few more times, then they can see that it does not hit them as bad as first one. Its all about tolerance, alcohol takes forever to build tolerance while weeds, fairly easy to build tolerance and adjust to the fun, relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Often those who either did smoke weeds or had exprience in smoking is likely to make better judgement than those who drinks. If they feel its too stoned for them to drive and they usually wont drive while alcohol, they get more aggressive and dont care if they r too drunk...

Honestly, I think you should lose your license permanetely after your first offense. You could seriously kill somebody or multiple people...

Yeah there is high chance that if you are charged for DUI way above the normal limits then chances are there that you are habitual or alcoholic and might be caught for second time. When my father used to work for a DUI attorney Los Angeles, he often told us that how drunk drivers are a threat to everyone else on road. He told us never to do drunk driving as it’s the worst way to lose everything you had.
