ssi is being canceled?

It could be because as you announced in a different thread, you have never been assessed for hearing loss and decided to buy a hearing aid off the internet and identify as deaf.So since you are not diagnosed as deaf your system does not consider you so.:hmm:

you know.. these days - having college diploma and great GPA is overrated. hell... a plumber with high school education and union membership can make a very very good living. Look at bunch of boys fresh out of Ivy league with some 4.0 gpa and MBA..... they're struggling to find jobs. So it's not mainly because of your disability.

What employer pays for is the result. Just wondering - do you have what it takes to deliver the result that they demand?

Not necessairly if you use it to your advantage.

You know that many companies will hire an individual with disabilities to meet the Federagl government's Affirmative Action policies. The form usually askes if one is a Viet Nam Vet, do you suffer from mental/sensory disabilities, etc, etc.

I know how you feel. When your child gets older, and can do more things, its only gonna get worse in stuggle to use the latest technology to cope with communication with hearies/deaf. Hearing aid batteries ARE expensive esp. if you go though one battery every 3 days. Now withmy newer hearing aid after 20 years, it finally last 10 days on avg thanks to latest technology and it wasn't cheap.

A small suggestion on sign language if I may. Since your daughter is only 3 now , wouldnt it be more prudent to buy sign language books and dvd and learn as you go until she is 5 or older ? I find that using a dictionary like sign book and picking only signs i want to know and use would allow the 2 of you to use immediately ? ( i can see the wave of flamed comments coming in, but my goal is to get someone started in ASL and actually enjoy it then after interest hass taken place , then you can be sersious about it so whatever you spend would be worth every penny. You mentioned youa re in utah, have you gone to any deaf meets there ? there is a large group of deaf there and Not sure if you know this , but the headquarters for sorenson communications is located there in SLC.

Just a bit of a clarification. It is not the system's responsibility to find you a job. It is the system's responsibility to help you delvelop the skills necessary to find one yourself. It is all about empowering you to become more independent. Doing it for you does not accomplish that.

She's actually 5 now. I was just explaining why we use SSI.

In order to receive SS Retirement benefits one must have paid into the system. Benefits are determined by the amount paid in. Same with SSDI. To receive SSI, one does not have to contribute a single dime to the system to draw benefits. Sounds pretty free to me.
 
social security also consists of disability and survivor benefits. i know because i receive both.

here in wisconsin, one cannot receive social security for more than one disability.

i qualify to receive social security for 4 disabilites: deafness, blindness, bipolar and ptsd.

however, i only receive social security for my blindness since it is my primary disability.

i wish i could also receive payments for my bipolar -- especially since rapid cycling is so difficult to treat. oh well. i guess i shouldn't complain because i am receiving something and the payments here for social security are pretty good.

Yeah, most Deaf people easily give up to look for the jobs. Depend on SSI or SSDI, it is very hurtful our future elderly people's retirement.

I have seen alot of healthy Deaf people travel alot and has a nice house and cars with our tax payers. That pissed me off.

Yes. And in order to receive survivor's benefits, one's parent must have paid into the system. The amount received is calculated on the amount paid in by the deceased parent. When a child is also disabled, once they reach the age where they no longer qualify for survivor's benefits, they can continue to receive disability benefits based on the amount the parent has paid into the system.

SSI is the only benefit that does not require that someone has contributed to SSA through work contributions. Therefore, SSI is the only benefit that could be considered "free money".

Funny how you mention it since it been a year that I have find no job for me as I did apply at 4 or 5 most suitable places for me last year to apply and yet no luck. Even a friend of mine did apply at about 15 jobs and still no luck for her as well.

I went thru 3 jobs so far so believe it or not, it is NEVER easy for a deaf person as me to find a job that I would simply have.

So dont you ever consider that people as me having SSI are considered "lazy" or whatever when we did try our best finding a job and as for others who have SSI for other reasons such as health problems and such cant work. So shit happens and its nobody's fault.

I am not takin advantage of the SSI as I do need it as back up money or whatever and SSI alone wont help me live on my own anyway. I live near the city and most jobs are taken or alot of places are going out of businesses, etc...the ecomony these days is pretty bad.
