Hi all. I have recently been diagnosed with one sided SSHL and raging tinnitus. I have a question to anyone else with high/mid frequency hearing loss. Do you every get when you are in the car or in a group of people kind of like squeaking sounds (assume this is at certain pitches) it's really getting to me. Certain songs on the radio do it and when people laugh or all talk at once it's like such a high pitched screeching. Will this sort itself in time or will a hearing aid help this?

Thanks in advance

I been dealing with tinnitus on and off for the last 20 years. I am deaf in my right ear with moderate to severe loss in my left. I haven't heard of your type of situation with tinnitus before but I suspect everybody's case is different. I have a manageable humming noise constantly with wild fluctuations every once in a while.

One weird aspect I have is if I bend over and stand up too fast the noise shoots up loud for a few seconds then returns to humming. I'm sure someone has a more similar experience like yours that may help you better then I.

That tinnitus type is one your doctor should be able to hear also, as it is from blood pressure.

Well if you have sshl get a hearing aid, see if it also helps the tinnitus, make sure the tinnitus isn't an ear issue like pressure or a problem with the middle or outer ear. I've had multiple types of tinnitus and hearing losses my whole life and can say the annoying clicking screeching popping type went away on its own and took some hearing with it, the ringing type becomes less dominant with hearing aids.

Thanks for the info on the blood pressure issue with tinnitus. I will check with my dr on that. I don't recall any doctors I've seen ever mentioning it to me

You are welcome. Here is a little information and a link.

Tinnitus may be subjective (discernible only by the patient) or objective (audible by others). Objective tinnitus may be produced by some internal acoustic source. Such body sounds are referred to as somatosounds
Pulsatile tinnitus is a form of somatosound arising from a vascular structure that may be abnormal. There are many possible vascular abnormalities occurring in the head and neck that may produce pulsatile tinnitus. Proximity to the ear is a major factor. The anomalies include vascular tumors, such as the glomus tympanicum and jugulare, and arterial and venous lesions such as arteriovenous malformations, shunts, aneurysms, and varices
Myoclonus is another somatosound that arises from a muscle that is undergoing repetitive contractions. Muscles in the middle ear and pharynx are most frequently responsible for myoclonus. A patulous eustachian tube makes a somatosound that can be appreciated by the patient and that is synchronous with the respiratory cycle. Tinnitus that occurs in response to the contraction of muscles about the jaw or elsewhere in the head and neck is referred to as somatic tinnitus

Very interesting. Thanks. There is a lot more to tinnitus than I realized even after all this time. Now only if I could make it disappear. My chances of that are probably worse than trying to win the lottery.

There is a thread on this site called "tinnitus", sorry I don't know how to post the link. But if you search for it you will find many of us explaining our situations with tinnitus. It was super helpful to me especially knowing that I was not going crazy.
