Sprint Smartview (Phone As Modem software)

I also using sprint wireless as modem, however, i DEFINITELY dont like it cause it is just slow speed than cable but just alittle slower than DSL does, tho but great for travels.

Well, in some area, DSL can be faster than cable, just depends on where area are you from.

I'm not get cable due future capping on usage, I'm happy with DSL.

I wish to have to get Fiberoptic line ( like as FiOS) it would be faster than Cable or DSL. I have to wait my local telephone company will have to change new digital technology near future.

Right now I still have Comcast Cable right now. I have twice fast than DSL

Heh! You're talking off post. We're talking about Phone As Modem on Cellular smartphone or cellphone. See how good and fast with good EVDO or other signal signal!

back to on topic:

PAM (Phone as modem) has different network chipset EVDO Rev 0 and A

if PAM device have EVDO Rev 0 or A or 1xRTT depend on your smartphone or cellular phone model, please check with your device owner's manual

1xRTT is slow about twice as 56K modem
Rev 0 is download is faster but upload is little slow
Rev A is full speed upload and download.

1xRTT 153 kbp send and rec
Rev 0 Receive 2457kbp (2.45 MBP/s) send 153kilobit
Rev A Receive 3100kbp ( 3.1 Mbp/s) send 1800kbp (1.8mbp)

according to Wikipedia List of device bandwidths - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the signal strengh is not perfect due to weather and distance in the coverage area and it is dependable on speeds or wireless traffic on internet

Strong signal will getting faster but weak signal will get slower.


I have Sprint Sierra Wireless Aircard is only to get EVD0 Rev A I get only average 2.4mbp to receive and send approxmately 450kbp to hook up my laptop . I will buy Sprint Blackberry 8330 Curve to use EVDO Rev 0 data only. I don't need PAM to next new Sprint Blackberry Curve 8330 after I cancel my current black T-mobile
Blackberry Pearl 8100.

I will use Sprint Blackberry Curve is only for Instant message and wireless mobile Internet browser and Sprint TV that is it.

If my sprint aircard will get bad in future and I will send to the store to repair and I have Device Protection plan with my Sprint Wireless bill. while my modem is in repair then I will use Blackbery Curve as PAM for temporary to use Internet as back-up until I pick up the modem.
 
Be aware of it, BB 8330/8830 don't support Rev. A EVDO, even not upgradable to Rev. A EVDO, except for change in later by RIM or carriers if they could work out to upgrade into Rev. A or never happen due bandwidth limitation, however new BB Bold would support Rev. A.

Currently, BB 8330/8830 support Rev. 0 EVDO, I only got around 500-800 kbps after tethering with VZ Manager to my PC, however got over 1 mbps with Rev. A EVDO from broadband card from laptop in last 2 weeks ago, even lucky, you could get little over 1 mbps with Rev. 0 EVDO in some area.
 
Alltel still have unlimited data plan which it cost $ 60 dollar($59.99) per month or with unlimited WIFI which it cost $ 70.00($69.99) per month. The coverage still spread EVDO in some states. I am not sure Alltel will upgrade EVDO rev. 0 to A. Also, Alltel's PAM plan cost $ 10.00 per month for smartphones.

Well, Verizon has bought Alltel so recently then plan would change to same offers as Verizon does in later time, however if people has unlimited data for tethering before Verizon officially takeover it then they still have unlimited data for tethering since new consumers will have 5 GB, at least, if Verizon would change their mind to offers unlimited data for tethering.

Verizon have unlimited data for mobile only, not for tethering.

There are many alltel customers getting upset about merger. They don't want verizon will change plan after merger with alltel. Alltel customers still are leaving for switch AT&T or Sprint.

If you are existing consumer, that prior to Verizon takeover the plan then you are sticking with plan that what Alltel offers, if new consumers come in after Verizon takeover it then they will start 5 GB for tethering ONLY, even Verizon has unlimited data for mobile only.

Right now, Verizon hasn't takeover Alltel's plan yet, they just merged so recently, where's proof that alltel is unhappy?

Switch to att or Sprint will no better, both of att and Sprint limit you to 5 GB for tethering too.

Huh!??? I think I used more than 5gb last month while tethering. I had been on website a lot on my laptop during my vacation and plus my kids were using youtube to watch video and my son were playing online game too. My bill didn't say anything but just $40 something a month. I asked SprintRelay customer support about cap. They told me there are no caps on network usage. Am I missing something?

Only for regular Sprint customer, you are on specialized plan.
 
Update from Sprint relay store

Bad news for all Sprint deaf users who use PAM, Sprint relay store already changed the policy to cap at 5 GB for PAM.

Look at their website, you will find out yourself or call them.

Catty, don't file to FCC because FCC isn't responsible for regulate on aspect of pricing.
 
Same to the aircard which the users can use it on their laptop. It limit 5 GB cap from Sprint.

This is not good for deaf users won't use vp too much.

Maybe the carriers such as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon can solve problem to try increase from 5 GB cap to whatever they offer them in the future.

I feel bad for them.

As for FCC. I know it have nothing to do with pricing but matter of fact that they shuld protect handicap and deaf from cellular and cable co's abusive practice. Capping it is bad for deafie. They shuld make it exception for us. There are billions of hearings and we're just a small minority of deaf population. Get idea?
