he slammed the coast guard, saying it "failed in its duty to carry out the rescue operation."

"After serious consideration, I've decided to dismantle the coast guard. The investigation and information roles will be transferred to the police while the rescue and salvage operation and ocean security roles will be transferred to the department for national safety which will be newly established," the President said.

what? that has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm not surprised... anyway - nobody likes this South Korean President anyway. She's akin to Sarah Palin + the extreme rightist. Many people still believe the Presidential election was rigged.
 
it disturbs me since when i first heard about this.

They are accused of telling passengers to stay put as the ferry began to capsize and then being among the first people to leave the stricken vessel

I told kids, if any adults think they know what they are doing, and if my kids feel or sense something wrong, then follow their instincts, not adult's decisions.

What about the captain of the ferry , he abandoned the ferry and left people to dies . He removed his clothes before getting of the ferry and when he got to ashore no one knew he was the captain . So there is no longer any
coast guard in South Korea ???

the coast guard will be transferred into something else.... and I fail to see what for.
