Son killed mother in argument over college grades, sheriff says

That is crazy!

Yes, I was UAB student for 2 years and hated it.

UAB is extremely difficult university, especially medical, biology and psychology are most challenged, also many students left after 1st or 2nd year due to poor grade or withdrawal (fail to meet SAP).

He should went to community college and pay school out of his pocket if he doesn't want parents to get involved over grade.

No, he shouldn't have picked up a baseball bat to his mother regardless of his school situation.

Laura

I don't understand why are you being grumpy at me.

I was just say about this son has no common sense about deal with situation.

Or the mother may be responsible for over-discipline her own son. Never know, there is two sides in every story.

But... its sad.

Yes.

I have seen many documentaries about son/daughter murdered their parent over various issues.

He should move out of parent's house if he doesn't want involve with his parents, also it is legal for 19 years old to move out in Alabama.

If found guilty, he will serve in state prison (maximum security, level 6 or 7) for rest of his life, also Alabama prisons are very dangerous and creepy - too many stabbing and raping and not enough prison staffs.

There has been a case like this not far from here. Sad.

This is how I see when one over-disciplines others it can back-fire. That includes our Penal codes, I believe many cases were over-disciplined where it leads to more problems rather than really rehabilitate somebody.

There's not one vowel of grumpiness anywhere in Laura's response to you; she is just giving you her perspective which I also agree with.

People need to Learn that when something makes them mad enough to commit such violence as this...is to turn around and walk out the door. Horrible tragedy it is...due to inflamed tempers.

Laura wasn't being grumpy; she simply didn't agree with your emphasis on seeming to blame the school for the crime.

easier said than done, since parents have custody of kids, if kids decide walk out of door, parents could call cop and that could intensifies the anger. Anything is possible as long as there is custody in effect.

Sadly, people no longer cultivate self-control or self-discipline. It's "my way or the highway" and "get out of my way or I'll hurt you."

Especially young people feel entitled to just let fly any emotional reaction to the least criticism or denial of what they want. They take offense at any little thing, and feel justified in overreacting, even to the point of deadly violence.

Not everyone but way too many, and with too much societal acceptance.

In this case, the "kid" was 22 years old.

or this mother is not the type to praise a kid. probably been nagging him since birth.

some mothers are just very negative... worse than crab theory.

She did to me all time and I never seen any positive from her since joined AD.

Also, she assumed that I condone the murder. :ugh:

I want to set a boundary from her.

Also, he may have mental illness.

The bipolar and schizophrenia aren't start until late teenager or adulthood.

Most prison inmates are mental illness.

That's not 1950s anymore that where people with mental illness locked up in state hospital.

Since you were a student at that school, can you explain to me why the guy would have to wait for weeks to get his grades?

According to academic calendar, the grade due on April 29 via online.

It looks like he has poor grades and don't want show to his mother.

In most cases, parents will usually stop funding the college education if students don't get good grade but I don't know about how his mother handle, possibly much worse.

When murder is involved so it must be worst action, if not so it could be mental illness.

Most mental illness went undetected until tragic occurred.

Maybe you can put her on ignore if that bothers you. This is unnecessary to spew out like this... you should tell her in PM instead of public forum. This is getting silly here.

Laura only stated that she disagreed... it's not hard to agree/disagree in a civil manner.
