So my PC died on me the other day...

Same thing happened to my family Mac computer which we had it for 5 years, the motherboard decided to die one morning. All files were saved though and moved to a brand new 24" iMac now, all is good.

Yeah, my parent's 17" G5 iMac died recently and they got a brand new 21.5" Intel iMac. The G5 iMacs have cooling issues.

Yeah, it was a g5 or higher, that my parents had, it was very good computer. Cooling issue was possible reason to harm the motherboard.

Don't ya hate when computers die and have to spend thousands on a new one, ugh! The nice guy named Chris at a computer recycling store in Seattle, he showed me the insides of a G5 iMac and a early Intel iMac and showed me how they have cooling issues and showed me a dead G5 iMac which was caused by excessive smoking in the house. The G5 iMac was easier to open up and the Intel iMac is more difficult to open, I think. I have no idea how long a intel IMac last under normal operating conditions. Mine was stolen in 2008 and it was only 1 year old that time.

I know, it frusrates me too, because I killed $1,500 worth of my PC, in the start of the year, it fried my motherboard and my HDD, all was my fault. it has been replaced with my new laptop which I have it now.

Wow, sorry to hear that! How is it your fault? Don't feel bad, everyone makes mistakes. When my computer got stolen, I had to buy an old G4 eMac for $140 on eBay and it died in around 6 months or so. When someone rear ended my car in rush hour traffic, I got insurance claim check and decided to buy a brand new computer which is an Intel iMac. The bumper of the car is not bad, mainly needs paint job. Who cares, it's a 10 year old car.

Not if it applies to my brand new car, I'll be pissed if the damage was soo bad.
I was checking the health of a failed HDD via my computer, and I unplugged it WHILE the PC was on, which unfortunately, fried my computer. Doesn't work anymore, however these monitors I have is still useful today.

yeah, if it was a car that's not that old...I would get it fixed.

I didn't know that unplugging a hdd while the computer was on will kill the motherboard. That's something new to me. Lot of mid and high end servers have user swappable hard drives while you can leave computer running, doesn't affect anything at all.

it fried the internal HDD as well, but will do another test and run with Lunix OS and see if it is repairable before considering throwing it out.

You remind of my exgf who tried to plug a her backup hdd to computer during power on and her HDD got burned and she lost all her data for homework at college. LOL. I tried to told her to shut a computer down then then unplug a power cord then wait till motherboard's green/red LED went out but she ignored my step to step. Now she whined about burned HDD but her motherboard and OS HDD still alive. She had two hdds *one for OS and one for back up* so

todays macs use both a vga port and hddi (high density digital interface)
you should be able to connect a vga monitor to it
most of them may also have a sync video port as well.
the early power macs required an adapter to use vga.
I still have a couple in my work bench
dust and improper cooling are major issues people need to learn how to correct
yeah Im a tech! 35 years of building and programming computers
with an active home network of 8 pc's and 2 servers

VGA is OLD as a goat with a beard.

Most Macs today use DVI port, aka mini DVI or something.
