So FRUSTRATED right NOW-hate hearing ppl at this MOMENT!

---I just realize--It was what I was feeling today..well, for a long
time...since maybe could be since the beginnin of this year I mean, many
deafies are feeling the same things, almost many everyday. I hate when
hearing ppl like for example: if they are my friends, they are taking a
sign language class, they just using it for a easy credit wut they
didn't use for? 1- communication 2-for a easy grade 3-they dont give a
shit. I just hate it...If I'm in their group--there's no
interpreter--they wont sign at all-wont let me know whats going on-or
wont tell me what ppl are saying-even if its my best friend since 3rd
grade-it PISSES me off. SO....guess what I did? I stopped hanging out
with them-haven't really spoken 2 them since, I guess I dont even know
who they are, if someone ask me who were they? Then in my thought...umm,
oh my goodness....I dont know!! It just shocks me! Sometimes those
days-I wishes I dont want to be deaf-know why? Hearing ppl makes me feel
that! Take a note of that, dont take offend of it, I'm just saying
straight from my thought, its what I feels, Its what my heart is pouring
out....I am ventin out right now. I'm frustratin, so is my deaf friend
also, we are getting sick of it. I drives to Phx, all the times, I mean
ALL the fukin TIMES...to hang out with deafies, that I can fit in which
that calls "deaf world" where I belongs, its where calls my name, its
where I can be....its where my life cld fit.--------I am so sick of
everything! I am sick of the people I hang out with. The only people I
am not sick of are the deaf people and the ppl who are willing to signs
that understand deaf culture and how to treat deafies. They are so much
easier to hang out with because they, a) know sign, b) don't judge like
stupid hearing people, c) they know what it is like to be deaf. The
hearing people don't. Some hearing people think they do, if ur reading
this then, don't even say you do.
Do you ever notice the communication barrier between you and I in
person? I definitly do.....Well, apparently right now I am very
F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-E-D with hearing people. Coming from a deaf person, I'll
share my frustrations with all of you hearing people. Please try to
understand...if you even care. Anyways, when I am around a big group of
hearing people, for instance, at school. If my interpeter is not with
me, they don't even bother to sign and tell me what is going on. It
makes frustration increase. My feelings become negative. My frustrating
thoughts are, "WHY DO I HAVE TO BE DEAF? WHY CAN'T I BE HEARING? AND NOT
HAVE TO BOTHER PEOPLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?!" Dont' get
me wrong, but I really do love being deaf. It just has its pros and
cons. It just shows that hearing people don't really care about their
"poor, pathetic deaf" friend to let us know what is going on. I just
wanted to let my thoughts out because I really hate hearing people right
now at this very moment. I do like hearing people and of course I LUV to
talk, but still. Some days I get so fed up with hearing people. I luv my
family and everything, sometimes I get sick of them because they don't
bother to tell me what is going on. I love being around deaf people
because they don't judge you. They dont' care. They just enjoy chatting
with people that have the same language as they do.
I hope you understand my frustrations. This is NOT all the frustrations
I am feeling right now. There is A LOT more problems I have with hearing
people. I'm sure you are thinking, "quit complaining, its life." True,
its life. It has its problems. I have the rights to complain. At least
you hearing people have nothing to complain about. You have no problem
with communication. Deaf people do. And other people that speak foregin
language. COMMUNICATION BARRIER IS MY PROBLEM WITH HEARING PEOPLE. Hope
that was big enough for you to read. hah. It's really hard especially at
school. People dont' realize I can read lips, yet they call me a
retard...HUH...that is soooo WRONG! When they hear me talk, they act
like they have never heard me talk before...Well, hello, can't you take
the time to get to know me before you judge me and call me a freakin
retard. Ughh...HEARING PEOPLE! ...Sorry if you take an offend to
this...Yet I dont' care....A lot of people dont' realize this, deaf
people have jokes about hearing people. Just like how you make fun of
us. We get our revenge. Deaf people are very tricky. Be careful with us.
We could do something hideous. Hah... Hope ya'll enjoyed reading this. I
really hope you guys get offended by this. I could use much stronger,
harsh words, yet I chose not to because I am a nice deafie that suffers
with hearing people because I am surrounded with them 24/7,
unfortuneatly...its a real life.

Sorry to hear...

I just wanted to say that I am a hearing person, currently a senior in high school...learning ASL...and I feel really bad knowing that hearing people are treating the deaf this way. I understand what you were saying about people not respecting ASL classes because in my school it's the same. People take the class just to goof around and use the language in order to talk with their other hearing friends in other classes without getting in trouble. Or they will also use the language for cheating purposes, which I find appalling. But I believe that there still are the few out there that really want to be better friends with deaf. I took the class because of that reason. My greatest fear though is that I will be made fun of for the way in which I use the language. I am at year 3/4 currently and still, I feel as though my communication skills are lacking because of my fear of rejection from the deaf world. My teacher is wonderful and I really admire his vigor in teaching us all that he knows, but he's also hearing. However, he has many deaf friends and I think its so cool that he can do that. I know that we are different, but I also know that our differences don't always have to set us apart. I wish in some ways that I could better understand your life, because I know that no matter how much I learn about the deaf world, I will never TRULY know anything because I can't experience it.
Anyways...I seem to have written a lot but not really said much so I'll stop babbling now. I just wanted you to know from a hearing person who truly appreciates what she is learning, that I'm sorry not everyone does.

odd thing that had hitted me.. the reason why hearing people re taking signing classes to be a speech theraphist, but i thought the reason for them to take or use signing to get know deaf culture and community, etc all that stuff... also but i think its wrong for the hearing people to take a signing language classes to teach the deaf children how to speak right or talk... its seemed kinda unfair, to me its IMO.... :dunno:

Actually, I think it's a good reason. If they couldn't sign, how would they tell us what's wrong with our voice or how we pronounce things? If a person was hearing and learning how to talk, then it's a lot easier because they can hear and also hear corrections. However, for deaf people... they can't hear their own flaws or the other person talking out the corrections. With signs, the speech therapist can point out the mistakes and help deaf people improve their speech skills. If you ever got hurt and the only person nearby is a deaf person. How would you talk to that person? You don't know how to talk. That person doesn't know how to sign. There is no paper or pen anywhere to be found. What you gonna do? You don't even know how to say "help" or anything. That's why it's good to have people who can do two things so that they can teach other people to do two things as well. I learn spanish, so I can teach spanish people to speak english. Same concept.

lucidjen wow it's very interesting... Ur not only i been there before same thing when i was in jr high school they are make fun of me and other deaf student too. Also all hearing don't know abt deaf culture but they need to know how all deaf's feel abt that.. but not alway all hearing ppl who is make fun of deaf ppl either, I m not good explain *grins* i just try want said something abt option *Hearing world* and *Deaf world* that different them communtie if Hearing ppl want learn abt ASL lang so should not make fun of deaf ppl bec one day they will realize how all deaf ppl's feel.

whoa, chill out girl!

I'm sure many deafies like you and me have been there more than a dozen times and it is true that alotta people sucks but remember, some deafies do too so...EVERYONE sucks...sometimes when I'm in class and I asked another person who's deaf what's going on, he just shrugs, sayin he doesnt know but he was lying so he tried to get me in trouble so...some people are meant to be friends and some people AREN'T...it's hard to know when you can trust them you know? You just gotta be really careful around those people. I do get frustrated alot of times about being deaf too, and I've used to hate myself being that but then I learned that there's always a reason for everything, and that deafness have a reason so I dont really hate being deaf...sometimes I enjoy it when I just sit in silence without having to hear so much noise, and can sleep alot better too lol...and even ignore assholes who insults me also...lol even if they didnt' know that i'm deaf, they are the ones who are actually losers anyway :D many ppl are afraid or nervous to speak to me, because of my deafness, they have no stragety or a plan to talk to me...so some just stay there being speechless and act like a retard, so they are really embrassassing themselves. so, Jeny, alot of hearies dont really know what's it like to go through life being deaf...they will never understand it until they are deaf themselves.

but I'm just curious...can you lip read people? I was taught at a very young age trying to speak and read lips and I can even read my mom's lips without having to wear a hearing aid and I can understand what she says to me, you know? so I learn to lip read from alot of people and it makes communication easier...but most people just mumble or speak too fast, it just makes it harder to understand them so I often have to ask them to repeat it or slow down, etc...but if you can't lip read people, that's fine...but have you ever heard of carbon copied papers? you should get them from office max or something like that, and use it for your note taker in class, taking notes for you while you watch your intercrepter and you would understand what's goin on ALOT better, you know? that's what I did in high school and that's how I improve my grades and stuff...by letting someone take notes for me and watch the intercrepter, and then study the notes for the test and stuff like that...that would really be a great help, I tell you.

So, Jeny, dont blame those people...it's not even worth it. why? because they aren't even meant to be true friends so it's just best to forget them and move on...that's all I can say for now...so good luck with school and everything. :)

peace, girl. ;)

Aside from teaching you how to talk, speech therapists also help you to lipread as well since they are teaching you how words are pronounced. This is very important as well. Let's imagine a story...

You're walking down the street. Suddenly, a car comes out of nowhere and is heading towards you at 100 mph. You don't hear the car coming, but you see a hearing guy across the street opening his mouth for some reason. Since you don't know how to read lips, you can't understand what he's saying. "Oh well, he's probably just yelling some nonsense to me." And continue to mind your own business. BANG! Tsk tsk tsk... if only you knew how to read lips. :(

*patience for their time* Until understand clarify if not accept patience then "not good". Up to your choice..

Your post is EXCELLENT!!!!! I would like your permission to use this post
when i am talking parents of deaf chilren who don't have a clue how their kids feel.

Surely you must have faced rejections 24/7. I was lucky to go to school with deaf programs whereas deafies can meet and be friends. We even made fun of our middle school English teacher. She was very overweight and was barely able to go through 4 feet wide door. LMAO! :booty:

GOOD venting and i uddy how u feel some not always feel this way good luck in yr endevors i know life's feeling shitty right now for u u ll make it! :)

I agree its excellent post...

Many deaf children with hearing parents and hearing family have this experience..

its same thing with me.. when all of my family gather together.. i felt left out.. and have no clue what they're talking about..

sometimes when my family start to laugh really hard.. and some look at me it makes me wonder * are they laughing on me?* really they're not laughing at me.. but i feel like they're laughing at me at some point because i have no clue what they're talking about.

also when i hang with my hearing friends. My best friend knows ASL a little bit.. but its enough for a chat. when he's with a group of friends he sometimes forgot to tell me what they're talking about and i felt left out.. i do feel angry.. but i accept what i am. sometimes he remembers and tells me what they're talking about.. or sometimes i tell him "what they're talking about" he would tell me.. sometimes he will say " too long to explain" that's what i hate...

i understand what you mean by that.. you're not the only one.

BTW excellent post.. and its good influence to other people...

Actually, I never really had that problem. I was usually the star of the conversation and always made sure I had control of the conversation. True I dont hang in groups, I am more of a one on one person. I notice that when people are in group, they tend to act stupid but that is another story. Yeah I was a homecoming princess :) , but its about making the best of the situation, if your friends are like that, just make NEW ones, not abondone the ENTIRE hearing people on a couple of bad apples. I dont use interpreters in school. Only in my junior year of college/university, I started using Real time captioning. I am known to speak my mind and debate ;) Stand up to your friends and tell them off in an intelligent, non-offensive way. They are not gonna learn when you just stop hanging out with them. There are bad apples everywhere, I have even met deaf people I would NEVER hang out with......... you cant act like deaf are perfect.....its all about chemistry and personality......not just language. My family is persian, we dont like or talk to ALL the persians that come around and Persians in central cali is not many, there are more in bay or in So Cali..... but still judge by character!! :) I hope you find better and more supportive friends, regardless if they are hearing or deaf.

oh man.. i am very sowwy that u had hard time now... i hope everything will be ok for u soon!!! :)

i dont even blame those ppl-thats not what i wrote abt-it was abt my feelings by the way, yes i can read the lips...i was forced to.

Dont be sorry-----why need to be sorry-im just a deaf person that has a lot of feeling, i was just pouring it out how I was feeling...thats all. Thnx tho.

LucidJen -- i feel for u!!! i know its frustrating all to hell -- as for hearies taking ASL classes for easy credit -- i CAN totally uddy that!!! my older sister took that when she was in high school and she ALREADY knew signs from the time she was 5 years old!!!!! *smh* she even dragged in 2 (if memory serves me correctly) other friends with her to take the class and THEY also knew some signs (cuz they were my babysitters when i was a kid on occasions and learned signs from my sister growing up as well -- we all grew up on the same street) -- they only took the class for easy credit in foreign language elective when it was offered back then (1980 or 81)
