So cold in Florida...

It's really cold and BabyBlue - your'e pictures were awesome.

The manatee are still in the warm water that FP&L is providing for them. Our house is old enough that the wiring can't handle having a space heater. Most Florida homes don't have central heat unless it's north Florida. Down here, it's never been needed, but we have a window unit A/C with heat strip. Somehow, when MIL turned it on yesterday, she didn't turn on the heat, but the A/C so we had no heat last night. She didn't catch it until after I had left for church. I am unable to walk because the cold has aggravated my leg something fierce and I can't put any weight on it at all, and when I move in the chair, I can't lift the leg.

MIL got a call from her family who has over 5000 acres of citrus, they have so far, lost only 5% of their crop, but tonight is supposed to be colder than last night. We shall see.

I'm south of you, but I SO feel you. We also had, at one time, a window unit with heat strip, but not anymore. Wish to the Heavens we still had it. It would come in handy now!

Stay warm and safe. I know how tough it is to weather this kind of weather with health issues. I'm in a similiar situation.

Stay covered up and warm gal! Hope your leg gets better soon.

Yeah several manatees went upstream in Crystal River to stay warm by the powerplant. And several are found upstream in springs. Since spring water stays at 72 year round.

Several sea turtles when in cold shock and washed ashore this past week. Aquariums from all over have been taking them in.

So it is not only having an impact on us. It is for the wildlife as well. The only good news is that the cold is killing off the exotic non native species. Such as pythons and inguanas.

Yep, it is chilly outta here Floridians. But, I love cold - it's about time that I feel the coolness/windy for awhile since I need a break from the heat! Oh, oh I don't mind to have the heat back after havin' this cold for awhile. Remember, I used to live in Alaska ? :P

This year, I may consider to move to Wisconsin. :)

My sons opening baseball game is tonight!

Got my jacket and blanket that I will take with me.

It's 58 right now, and my daughter is working hard at cutting a "strangler" plant off the rubber tree. She's been cleaning up the yard of all the palm branches that blew down with the rain and wind we had.

She's happy that she's getting school credit for it too, so that keeps her working.

BabyBlue, Thank you for post the pictures of frozen oranges. That is very interesting. I hope your state will return to warm soon.

we finally got heat after calling the propane company! :D it's set at 75 degrees.

Tonight forecast is 11 degrees.. I wonder if my thyme will survive the freezing weather.. All my other plants are dead.

Maybe i should have covered my basil and other plants in ice to keep them alive..

Florida sounds awfully cold.. I don't envy you guys down there.

it only sounds awfully cold 'cause we're used to 70+ degree weather!

I saw that recently on the news and heard the orange juice will increase in price if the freeze continues.

yep. Last I heard most of the crop survived, but that our green beans, potatoes and something else took a hard hit and will probably not do well.

We are finally warming up a bit and should be back onto the uphill swing in temps. Yay!!!

Here in Midwestern Ontario Canada I woke up to -22c when I had to walk my do and it warmed up to an nice -7c. It has been snowing here most of the day that the snowmobiles have been out all day on the trails behind my home.

Oceanblue, Serious??? You said Orange Juice will be increase the price because of freeze. Ohh man! I love to drink OJ because I'm pregnant.

Anytime a crop is reduced due to weather or whatever, the remaining crop will be more expensive in the stores in their product due to the limited availability.

As far as oranges go, Florida, Texas and California are the 3 main producers of US oranges. I personally prefer Florida due to their flavor and while in Missouri we could only get Texas, I refused to eat them. I find Texas oranges to be a little more bitter and California orangesto be a little drier. That's just my personal opinion.

OJ is great for when you are preggers and should be consumed even if the cost goes up if only to benefit yourself and the baby.

Yeah! My husband used to live in Florida. His favorite drink Floridan OJ because of flavor. This is good for vitamin C and calicum. In California's orange called Sunkist is bigger than Floridan's OJ. I prefer Florida's. I guess the orange will be fresh from freeze in cold weather.

YAY!! Saw on the news that this weekend it will get back up to the normal 70 degrees daytime temp!! woot wooot!! I can not wait!!!

Still have one more night of a hard freeze then after that.. the warming trend will start.

lol, I prefer apple juice and can't drink orange juice due bad stomach acid.

Here in Tampa it's ridiculous! I don't own heavy winter clothes, so the moment we hitf the freezing point :run: I went out and bought swaters and a coat. It was milder today, but I still hate the freezing mornings! :squint:
