No, there are more venomous snakes, and several of them live in my state (South Carolina). Some won't bite unless cornered or startled but some are aggressive and will chase people and animals.

We most commonly have water moccasins/cottonmouths, copperheads and rattlesnakes, that are dangerous. The safe ones that are common here are rat snakes.

There are more but those are the most common in my neighborhood.

Speaking of birdhouses I think the sparrows are doing some remodeling on their nest b/c I found a part of it on my deck and a bird flew out of it when I open my sliding door. I thought they where gone for the year and would be coming back in the spring. You better check car before getting in , I been hearing of people finding snakes in their car and trunk.
I've had a snake in my kitchen but none in my cars.

TCS drove over one once (not intentionally--it was crossing the street). He looked in his mirror and didn't see a body. When he got to his destination, he was a little nervous about where the snake might be. Did it crawl up into the underside of the car? We'll never know.

Some venomous snakes are even more deadly than the rattlesnake, such as the coral snake.

In addition to venomous snakes, we have fire ants, and yes, they are awful!

How do you avoid them? They hide in bushes, under bushes, under house steps, in firewood piles, trees (they drop down on people), in boats, in planters, and in birdhouses. I run into them often when I'm weeding and trimming in my yard and garden. I was shocked one day when I was pruning an azalea bush and the snake was entwined in it, several feet off the ground.

I'm an independent Baptist, and believe me, no one in my church is sticking arms into snake buckets to prove God's love.

One of my sisters had snakes get into her basement , her house had the woods behind it so they had a bear in their yard too. Her husband had to stay his car and wait of the bear to leave . They took the bird feeder down after that happen. I think snakes are beautiful , I loved their color and pattern .
