Sleeping with the TV on....a must for some people?

I have a friend that cannot sleep unless the TV is on all night. Strange, to me! When her bedroom TV went "on the blink", she came over and asked if she could borrow a TV from me until she could get another one.

That's when she told me of her "problem??"...Said she could not sleep in the "silence"....That she could "hear" every little sound in her house and it kept her awake all night. So she HAD to have a TV on when she slept. She was serious!

I told her I really thought it was "just a bad habit, probably one she acquired when she was a kid", and her parents didn't care how much TV she watched. And she needed to work on that problem! HAHA!...She said, "I can't sleep without the TV! I'm sorry"!

Oh well, she's got my TV until she gets another one!
 
I'm the opposite. I can't fall asleep if the TV is on. I must be a light sleeper because the "blinking" of the TV after dark drives me crazy and keeps me awake.
 
Same here....I'm deaf, and my friend (that borrowed the TV) is hearing...

I can't sleep with all that flickering, bright, then dark scenes...A small, constant light is OK (like the street light from the window).

Seems to me that all the noise hearies hear all the time, that they would require silence when they sleep.
 
I can sleep quite comfortably with the televison on. Often the sounds lull me off to sleep. Actually, I fell asleep last night with both the tv AND the lights on. :P
 
I do sleep with the tv on sometime. But I would request the tv to being on during the bad storm ^.^v

Sounds like she needs white noise to cover up those little house noises. Could she use radio instead?? I think a radio uses less power than a tv.
 
and TVs can be turned off automatically after a period of time, if you set it to turn it off after few hours.

:wave: This is what I do J Clarke, I set the auto turn off timer to 1 -2 hours depending how tired I am. I also set the auto channel changer to change to something I know will put me to sleep during the commercial breaks, like a Murder She Wrote rerun. Every week day evening at 11 PM Murder She Wrote comes on at 11 PM on some channel. Works great during the week nights, gotta do a channel surf search for weekends or I just put on the Cartoon Network. :giggle: Volume is set to 'Mute" and CC is ON. Has been working well for me for years.
 
Once a while I can't sleep at night, and I would turn TV on and fall asleep. It helped me. I would find boring show, and make my mind go 'ugh' at the show and go sleep! LOL!

Same with my cousin, she must have TV on for couple of hours cuz sound sooth her. I don't know if she still does it or not.

I just put the volume down to none and call my TV, 'deaf TV' and some of my hearing friends would complain, LOL

I'm hearing, but the same way. I can't stand for the the tv to be on for this reason. The "dancing light" drives me insane and I can't sleep!

I also have to have a relatively quiet house. Since I can't just "turn off my hearing", I've learned to live with various "white noises" after night like the refrigerator humming, or a car going by, or someone getting up to use the bathroom, and pipes that make noise. But, I cannot sleep if someone is up. I have a hard time sleeping thru people talking or what-have-you.

You get used to certain noises, but you're right. I have a difficult time sleeping if the house is overtly noisy or there's unfamiliar sounds around me.

My oldest son use the television to fall asleep also and he's hearing.

And for me I keep the lights on in the hallway, as I am afraid of the dark. :lol:
 
I know really too much watch on televison because reason you know too much addiction on tv movies and tv. that is not good balance control yourself, I was very tired beacuse that is not good. I don't know what is happened I am very really tired....
 
I don't have a tv in my bedroom. I sleep with my radio that stays on 24/7 on my local christian music station :)
 
Some people sleep easier with different things.

Some people can't sleep with different things too.

I can sleep with the light on. Some people can't. :dunno:
 
Yeah it varies from each person to each person.

I cannot sleep with the lights on. I have to have it pitch black. If the blinking lights comes across, or if even the lights are on in the hall way and it peeps through the bottom of the door between the floor while the door is closes, that also drives me nuts, LOL.

The only time I will fall asleep with the TV on is when I am very very tired to the point where I zonk out without realizing it.

That's a huge power drain. Especially if he or she has an lcd or plasma tv.
