Try download and install Google Map? I don't have problem dl and installing it through OTA (On The Air). Just go to your browser and type "Google Map for BB 8310" and it'll show up on list and go in and click Downlod.
Don't you realized that BB Map is part of Google!!??Scroll down "about" and you will find it. They're just stripped down version of Google Map.

You use BB under Sprint since Sprint don't lock the GPS on 3rd party apps.
Your suggestion doesn't work, it need change the com port but very risky, I'm waiting for new BB Tour because GPS is fully unlocked.
If you don't understand then go to Verizon store and buy BB 8330 then test yourself for 10 days then return it, you would have prove my point.
