I went att store today and need set up the account and activate my phone then one att rep want check my credit score and she said that I have pay $500 deposit then I was like WTF and ask her why, she said you maybe have bad credit score and I was WTF again, I never use credit card or never got letter from collection agency, even they cannot activate any unlocked phone that come from other carriers, such as G1 is from tmobile, also this att rep isn't very nice either and she just act like don't care.

I'm extremely upset right now then I made decided go to tmobile and asked one rep about open the account and they said voice plan is required then I told her that I'm deaf and she act don't care then I just fuck it off.

I made decided to return the Nokia phone to online retailer after deliver and struck with Verizon, even Verizon will have Android phone this fall and will keep G1 that work with WiFi only because ebay isn't returnable for refund.

I should do pre-check at first place before buy phone online.

Verizon and tmobile don't require deposit but Sprint require deposit for people with no credit history, it will be $100 but att is $500, I only accept if it's $100.

I used to be att customer last year and no required to pay deposit.

I was enter my att store last year and my credit score is very good.. strange.. how can you make bad credit?

That's a thing with unlocked phones, Foxrac, if it's not under the current AT&T Lineup you shouldn't bring it into their store asking to sign up with a plan, and everything else.

It is better to just go and pretend you don't have a phone, get a junk phone or the plan that seems most suited and get the free phone that comes with it. Then once you have your plan setup, go home and put the sim card in your G1 then sell the other phone somewhere like ebay.

Also, att will able to activate any unlocked phone that's not brand with other carriers, such as Nokia and some HTC.

If you use to be wireless AT&T customer in past and never missed payment then you should be able to get phone without deposit down.

Make sure you go to AT&T CORP Store .. Not reseller or agent or autorizated store .. Need to be CORP Just ask the worker are they corperation store or agent autorizeted store.

If you were late on several payment when you were AT&T customer then that will hurt your chance of getting a phone without deposit.

Don't give up yet. Also try online ordering and see if you get the phone online without a deposit too.

I went to CORP att store and they required me to pay $500 deposit.

Any other option?

It is not whether you've had issues with them directly, they do run credit check.

My advice is to pay up $500 to get whatever you want from AT&T Mobility. You will get your deposit back in 6, 12 months (depending on the circumstance) but that is if you pay your bills on time.

Another advice, if you still don't want to pay $500, establish credit lining with VISA, MasterCard, Capital One or even with your local bank or fuel/gas companies. Use the credit card to buy some stuff (doesn't have to be outrageously expensive) and pay your bills on time.

I made final decision that I'm sticking with Verizon.

Yup, I will get credit card soon in later, just need more score due car loan in near future.

I see. AT&T will be there when you do decide to switch to them. :)

How does att will be there?

I just got over it about this situation.
I believe there is a little misunderstanding here. What I meant... suppose in 5 years, you got tired of Verizon and wanted to go with AT&T, AT&T would still be in business that time.

AT&T isn't really THAT bad...I don't have any issues with them and I'm a happy customer with them. It's tons better than T-mobile because of the connection reliabity.

I don't make any bad thing about att but att has changed their policy about credit history, that cause people with no credit history so upset, just found alot of information via google and I used to be att consumer and no deposit required for no credit history but not anymore since last year.

I have refresh my mind about problem with att because of dead spot in random area and crappy server for BB. I don't have any problem with Verizon but RIM server is down so few time and monthly plan isn't cheap, also GPS is locked to VZW Navigator and BB Map only.

I think all carriers has pros and cons.

Try download and install Google Map? I don't have problem dl and installing it through OTA (On The Air). Just go to your browser and type "Google Map for BB 8310" and it'll show up on list and go in and click Downlod.

Don't you realized that BB Map is part of Google!!?? Scroll down "about" and you will find it. They're just stripped down version of Google Map.

Good luck
