Silenced again...

Ok thanks, Just wondered because of the newer technology with the ITC since these are different.
I know my old ITC when I went to use them for backup, I could no longer hear with them, they were a Seimens brand and digital as well.
I looked for my hearing test and havent found it yet, wasnt where I thought it was so I have one more place to look a bit later.

I did however find a letter from my audiologist that they are providing Phonak and some other brand I havent heard of, but just certain models, probly the low end of the scale since I apprarently been lied to about the top of the line with Starkey already? I will just go to the new place and start all over with new.

If you can't talk to both by email then maybe ask what they charge for a consultation w/o hearing test (tell them you have a copy of your last hearing test) just to discuss what brands they carry, etc. this way you can hopefully determine if the Audi is more interested in helping you hear or more interested in making money of you.
My Audi has more than one brand in her office.

Tell them you don't want low end hearing aids or unknown models. My Starkeys were low end and frankly the whole brand just didn't cut it... I'd expressly ask about Widex and Phonak before they start talking and tell them these are what you want to try first. Like I've said, the Internet is your friend so look for people in your area and email around. Don't let anyone talk you into something you haven't heard of before. Widex and Phonak are established companies for severe to profound...as for the others....look before you leap....

Most hearing aid providers offer a two weeks trial period before buying the product.

Use it as it is well worth it.

Try at least two different brands - why not Phonak and Widex.
I've heard a month ago Phonak is coming out with most powerful hearing aid on the market so far.
I don't know if you need that powerful, however, since you are contemplating CI -
I guess you might need it.

So, find out, try two different brands, similar strength, and see what you like.
Make sure they program it very well to your needs.

Fuzzy

My mother got more or less conned into buying me Oticon hearing aids before I knew what she was doing. I haven't been at all impressed. Bit pricey for junk.

I really liked my Oticon Tego Pro, the sound was much better than my phonak Naida UP's, but my loss surpassed their capabilities, only had it for 4 years. But it was great while it lasted :D

Got an email back from the lesser of the 2 evils today...lol
They stated they carry all brands, Nu-Ear line... specialize in Starkey.
I responded with I am dead set on Widex and Phonak, so waiting on the next reply.

I have been to this hearing center before (just different office) and they did a bate and switch on me so after a little shove with a lawyer I got what I was supposed to get, but in the long run I think they gave me a cheap knock off... So really I dont think Im going to go to this place and wait for the center in the hospital to contact me, I feel it will be a better experience in the long run.

When I got my CI and got activated I noticed that I heard with my brain, not my ears, because the electrodes go directly to the hearing nerve, I think. Interesting. Medicaid and Medicare covered my CI and the surgery and the batteries, they paid in full. You can read all about it and my experiences, just click on the first link in my signature.

I researched online for dealers of Widex and Phonak... I can only find Widex, which one is close and in the Hospital close to me. Apparently Phonak is not in the United States? I cannot find anything here for Phonak.
I sent an email to the provided email address direct to the office, so I will see what happens with Widex.

Yes, Phonaks is in the US, I've seen TV ADs for them.

Phonak is a Europian company but the have representatives in the USA. They are a leading brand in the US as far as I know.
To to Phonak.com, if not prompted for country, look at the top right side for the drop-down to the left of the search box and select USA.
Click on hearing & hearing loss then click on Experts Near You.

Ok, I stand corrected.

Good for you, stick to your guns...I've never heard of Nu-Ear and what ads I've seen, they don't impress me as being suitable for loss in severe to profound range. My audiologist largely carries Widex and Phonak because of the success she's had fitting her clients. Don't allow anyone to sell you crap. Trust me, as big as those two brands are someone has them.

My CIC aids I had years ago were Nu-Ear, and they were crap.
