Hello everyone. My name is Stanley and I am an Industrial Design student from Poland. I am finishing my bachelors degree and as my final project I wanted to create something that would tackle one of the problems that people with disabilities face. I have came up with an idea of a headband or some sort of a necklace that would give off gentle vibrations in certain part around your head/neck to signal sound and its location. Whether it's a car, train , or person behind trying to communicate, this device would enable you to locate the sound and resemble its intensity with frequency of vibrations. Maybe it would be very confusing to feel those vibrations around your neck/head making this device pointless, maybe there is no need for this type of device in the first place. I would really appreciate it if you gave me an honest opinion about it and maybe shared some problem you face and think could be solved through design. Thank you and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

The tingles on the back of my neck don't always work. Now, if I had a vibration warning of a train coming from behind...
By all means, go for it.
Good luck.

Thank you for your response! Since this device would react to any sound, don't you think it could be confusing? Maybe it would be better to somehow separate the sounds that come from threats and people speaking directly to you from other unimportant stuff. Thanks

Unaided, I am functionally deaf. With HA's I do OK. However, I do miss the ability to locate sound. It would have to be something I could turn on and off easily. Going for a walk, driving, hearing something that I can't identify, and so on. Go for it. Maybe a wrist-band?
