Hi, I'm an AUSLAN student from Canberra.
I've been asked to write about name signs & give some examples.
If anyone could help me by explaining their's, how & where they got it and what it means, I'd really appreciate it??
Cheers

OT: do you know AD'r JClarke? I believe he hails from your part of town. :P

Back to topic: my sign name is a curved "K" starting from behind the ear and moved straight down towards the shoulder. Meaning: I have long hair.

I'm hearing, btw...not sure if you were addressing the initial question towards me.

You may want to check out this thread also: http://www.alldeaf.com/sign-language-oralism/59467-your-sign-name.html

My sign name is the letter "E" starting on the chin and moving to the heart. It was given to me by someone who said my laughter touches people's hearts.

That's a good thread Doc. I think we are almost all in there.

If the OP goes to the trouble to look mine up, I will add my grandmother gave me mine, and I still have it even though I am now a staid, fat, old lady. :P

My ASL teacher gave me mine. Its the letter "S" sign the color brown near your eyes =)

She loved my brown eyes =)

Mine is with M on my chin for Mikel and for my wife ...for her is T on her chin for Tiffany ......... that's what i know of this moment........... :giggle:

Wait a minute.... Nicole, I hail from Canberra too! (And I am deaf) I am not sure if I know you from one of these classes at CIT. Which year are you in (1st years? 2nd years? 3rd years?)

If you know me, holla back!

Thanks for that society's child- no, not sure I know who you're talking about?! ...Well, now I do- but we haven't met.
Thankyou ALL very much for that, really interesting.
There are some cute and special names there.

My sign name are the initials of my first and last name. The first initial (L) is signed on the left shoulder and the last initial (K) is signed on the right. I was given this sign by a deafblind woman I met while in training at my local deafblind center. I was told that it represented my personal strength and
self-confidence.

Can I ask anyone from OZ if they consider themselves part of the Deaf community, and why?? {Need it for one of my classes.}
I'm kinda embarassed but this is really helpful & a gr8 experience finding out your answer/s & stories.
Thanks SO much!!
Nicole

nicole - just FYI some of the sign names from the other AD members, are from American Sign Language just the heads up to you if you were imaging it in AUSLAN

My name is Rocky (no joke), my name sign is like the ASL letter R and L combined brought up the right side of the face to the right side of the head while bringing the thumb into the hand. My friend gave me this sign after he started teaching me ASL, although I'm not entirely sure what it means... something about my hearing aids, I forget

I am amzed that most peoples sign names are so flattering, I mostly have seen ones that are downright rude , lude , or just plain out of left field.

My sign name is "Z" coming from the side of forehead because I tend to be thoughtful.
