Sign Language

People make ignorant comments about deafness, blindness, all kinds of disabilities all the time. The only way to get them not to be ignorant is to educate them. If you just insult them back (and I know it's tempting cause lots of times they're insulting you) no one learns anything. So if you put your emotions aside and lay out facts, it benefits everyone more in the long run.

you said it better. thats totally true.

:deaf:I am sick and tired of seeing Deaf Children, and Adults wearing cochlear Implants, hearing parents stop taking away what is rightfully there's the Deaf World, the right for them to sign...

Sign Language is recognised language, it's a beautiful language.

Hearing Parents of Deaf Children are destroying the Deaf World!

The next person that approaches me saying "I wish I could sign" I shall scream. Well go and learn, stop pussy footing about.

I am very proud to be apart of the Deaf World. :deaf:

In post 21 here you were happy with how fast your speech was improving due to your latest acquired hearing technology.

Volatile personality!!

By the way, the bolded part of your latest post, means separate and not part of the deaf community.

I get so tired of people starting fights.

So I guess today I will scream back at you.

No.

Number one, she says "Hearing parents of Deaf children are destroying the Deaf world" How do I NOT take that personally? That is directed at me, my husband and ALL hearing parents. She didn't say some, or oral only. She chose to paint us all.

Number two, she said that we are "taking away what is rightfully theirs. They right to sign". Well, actually, a lot of parents are NOT doing that. (And I won't get into the whole whose child is a deaf child deabate, but that is also a huge deal)

Number three, I don't give a rat's a$$ if she's "sick of seeing kids and adults with CI's" my kid has one and it is a wonderful benefit in her life, so if you don't want to see it, stay at home. She has the same right to be in the world, even the Deaf world, as you do.

If you dont give a rat's a$$, then why respond in this thread?

To the OP, there are some hearing parents who implant their child who also are supportive of ASL and the Deaf community.

Maybe your thread is more directed at those who have audist views of ASL and the Deaf community?

Because it is rude to me and disrespectful to my child, and all the other children who use CI's.

But you did say that you didnt give a crap but it seems like you do give a crap to what the OP thinks. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't give a crap if she doesn't want to see my kid out in the world. I would never allow someone with such a narrow mind and disgusting perspective affect my day to day living.

How can you support someone who is against children and deaf people (even if those deaf people happen to have CI's)?

Did I say that I supported her? Where did I say that?

I thought she was saying she was tired of people who take the implant route and don't think they don't need ASL... then she keep running to people who say they wish they learn ASL (I'm assuming these people have CI by no choice?)

I don't think so.

I think it was a mean and evil attack.

I disagree too. I think that the VAST majority of adults with implants chose them for themselves, and the people saying they want to learn sign are hearing.

I believe so, since OP made the only one post in this thread and has not return at all.

Maybe the OP is having a bad day and wanted to lash out at ADers..which is not a good way to get acquainted with us.

That's what i suspect at first. Like i said, "friendly reminder" in my post to let op that not everyone, just some of them are like that.

yeah it does sound kinda like an attack (but I also think she just wanted to shout out her deaf pride), but I just thought her main subject was about sign language. Even her title is titled "sign language"

If she wanted to show her Deaf pride, great but I think that person should cease on attacking and making blanket statements like he/she did.
