But I do use the rEFInd boot manager from time to time

Same here, complicated for those who aren't a nerd. lol

I haven't used rEFInd since one of the update screwed or modified my HD and couldn't boot into OSX, ended up formating, but thanks to Time Machine I was able to restore the last backup.

Seeing you mentioning rEFInd, I might do it again sometime in the future but now VM.
