Legalization Opens Criminal Floodgates
My home country of Germany is one of the few nations to legalize prostitution. Proponents of legalization argue that all attempts to deal with the sex business have failed and the only option left untried is decriminalization. Legalization helps the victims of the pay-for-sex system, the women, so the argument goes. The law provides them with rights, health insurance, and even benefits. It also provides prostitutes legal recourse. They can sue their client if he doesn’t pay.

Years ago the Netherlands legalized marijuana so that in one of the countries’ so-called "coffee shops" you can now go buy marijuana. Proponents of legalizing marijuana argued that by decriminalizing pot smokers, you could separate them from the hard drug mafia. This experiment didn’t succeed.

Citizens legally enter through the front door of the “coffee shops”, but criminal suppliers still use the back door. They sell marijuana legally, but also peddle other drugs prohibited by law. So while smoking marijuana is legal, every smoker remains only a small step away from a criminal. This should give the Dutch pause. Instead they pioneered the legalization of prostitution too.

Legalized prostitution creates the same problems that legalized marijuana does. While prostitution is legal, forced prostitution is not. The latter occurs, and the new German law unintentionally makes it harder to hunt down human traffickers, especially from Eastern Europe and Africa. Similarly, it is harder to combat under-aged prostitution. With legalized marijuana and prostitution, Amsterdam became a magnet for human traffickers, drug traders and petty criminals. This is not the world legalization’s proponents envisioned, but it happened.

Germany’s red-green coalition pushed the legalization of prostitution past parliament. In a reflection of the power of feminism in Germany, the fate of the women trumps all other considerations. Now the consequences have to be managed. Questions like should prostitutes be able to collect unemployment benefits? should government be in the business of encouraging prostitution as a career path? can you allow prostitutes to advertise their services on TV?

Some of the solutions to these questions will be plainly ridiculous. Prostitution is just not a profession like any other. It’s not a service job like a waitress. Government cannot treat all jobs equally if prostitution is one of them. Prohibition might not work, regulation might be difficult and legalization will not be sustainable. So -– and let’s think creatively -- what's next?

I do not agree to label Prostitution as crime.
All what I want a question either Prositition should be legal or not?

In North America, prostitution is a crime and is therefore illegal.
One can get a criminal record for engaging in prostitution. Albeit, it's only a crime if you get caught.

In general statutes of law are separated in the following categories.
Civil: tort, property law, trusts and equity
Criminal: assaults, murder
Estates: Last will and testaments, POA
Family: marriage and divorce proceedings, the rights of children.
Other laws: immigration, tax, human rights, regulation, environmental, etc

I'm suggesting that we remove the criminal label of prostitution and deal with this problem under a different court system. Perhaps civil court would be more appropriate instead of criminal court? You know prostitutes don't pay taxes for their income, maybe they should! :eek3:

I don't really care. If they want to offer their body for money, fine with me.

Prostitution is legal in some states. Ever been to Moon Lite Bunny Ranch?

I stand corrected!!! Decriminalization of "adult non forced prostitution" is on foot in America.
No, I can't say I've ever had the pleasure  of visiting the "Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel". Nevada is the center of the universe.

Not only female do it, male do it too...

Is it a bad thing...? I do not know, I have not spoke to any of them in Nev. to decide. So I will hold back my bias until I learn more about what they have to say including what polices have to say about this situation. I am not going to let my moral decide what other people should do or not.

As for STD's, the truth is legal prostitutes have very low rates of STD's despite mulitple sexual partners. In fact, there's no report of HIV infection among Nevada legal prostitutes.

So, I think it should be legalized and regulated to cut down the risk of infection that men may get from street hookers.

Yes I second that.

I realize slowly that Prostitute should be legal due our debate that the prostitutes receive month check from health department for their safety... Without legal, they would not receive check from health...

Personally, I don't think it should be legal..

To me, if you're in a commited relationship and you're doing prostitution, it's a form of cheating even if your lover approves of the job.. Plus the health issues and the possible pregnancy issues if condoms or BC is not used (some people don't like using BC).. Plus some guys could pick you up and rape you... I've heard of it happening to Prostitutes..

This is Just My opinion... And I don't remember where I heard of rape happening to Prostitutes, so I can't prove it.. I'm sure searching online for it would work.

I think it should be LEGAL with professional and clean with condom include. And have guard watch between mates to make sure they aren't into any incident. And it would be nice for guard to watch as free PORN. weeee

lol

seriously... without prostitute.. that crazy. Good thing, there are limited in the world. Great balance.

I voted yes, and here are my reasons:

If prostitution was legal, we would be able to exercise governmental controls. In that way, we could ensure that, rather than working on the streets, those who choose this professon would be subject to medical screenings for STDs and other communicable disease.

Legalization would prevent the victimization of young girls and who have run away from abusive home situations by exerting controls.

Victimization of all women to pimps would be avoided.

Tax money would be obtained fromthe registered brothels, and used to ensure adequate medical care fro prostitutes.

Prostitution is the oldest profession known to man. It has always been, and will always be a way to employment. We will not eradicate it simply by making it illegal.

The choice to engage in protitution is a moral one, therefore, we cannot deem something illegal on a purely moral basis.

Legalization will protect those men who choose to frequent prostitutes from the spread of disease.

Since people will always purchase sexual services from prostitutes, which is better? A prostitute who works the streets, and cannot afford medical care to ensure that she is not spreading disease. or a licensed brothel where prostitutes are receiving medical check-ups every six months?

If it were legalized and controlled none of this would be an issue!

:gpost: Jillio

At first I was against it and then unsure due hot debate between Germans and me... Now I´m sure 100% that prostitution should be legalization in every country.

Why shall we allow pimps to control their women by force them to sell their bodies and keep money to themselves. Why shall we allow people who are living above the laws to have sex with prosututes? Remember what God say, shall not do adultery.

Even if it's legalized and controlled.. there can still be issues.. No system is perfect.

There are issues with every job in the world... so nothing is perfect.

Even if you tax brothels, they could "pad the books" so they look like they're making less than they really are, so they can take more for the owners... it happens in a lot of businesses. It's called Tax Fraud.. And depending on the country, the taxes that are paid to the government could go to something else and not medical screenings..

And not every licensed brothel will have their prostitutes go for medical screening.. again, they could fake the documents saying that the prostitute went to a medical screening when the prostittue never went...

There are ways around the laws no matter how many arguments or reasons you give.. because people will find ways of getting around the laws.. I don't condone the actions, i'm just showing how it can be done.

No, do people really want raise the population of people during crisis of global warming? If it was made legal, I think more women will participate. And that can create more accidental pregnancy due to having sex everyday. The risk is just too high.

Well, this is women's and men's decision to choose to sell their bodies for money to improve their fianance. The reason the Government made prosiutiutes legalize because of health control. I would prefer to have government control on prositutues because it should be keep clean and less crimes.

I personally prefer to do something than sell my body if I struggle with money. Each person is different.

It's your country so they do whatever they want. If they were to legalize prostitution, they should make rules. Maybe require women to have their tube tied or IUD or something like (not birth control pills since it is not fooled proof. It is easy to forget them) or they can't do prostitution.

BTW, if drugs are around, there will still be crimes. Even if it was legalized. Drugs caused people not to think rationally. Majority of women in America who do prostitution do it for drugs.

I voted in NO. Although it is NOT completely illegal in US, thanks to Nevada, I just don't like the idea of prostitution. I am greatly concerned about the fact of carrying STDs and craps into someone, for example if my companion went out for a night and had a night stand and then came back the next day. You know like hell he won't be clean by the time we're making love. Ew, I just couldn't imagine that happening to me.

I'm not here to get all dirty.

Prostitution should be legalized for both men and women but in a controlled environment(no drugs). Lets face it, when you have sex the legal way like marriage and dating, there is money involved anyway, just like paying a professional. Except love is not involved here, just a temporary companion. Everyone goes home happy and if you don't enjoy it with each other, all your out is a few bucks, no divorce, no children and no property is involved. More STDs come from dating and bedding with someone you met anyway-simply because your partner may not know they have STD yet. Professionals should use mandatory protection and have frequent checkups like they do in Germany.

Prostitution can be legal but in controlled way such as having brothels, medical check ups, etc. Also prostitution should be for adult age only--no kiddie stuff! Ive heard that in netherlands, it reduced rapes because men have sexual outlet to release their lust. Plus the gov't would love to get more $$ by adding another "sin tax".
