shootin in the dark ?????

Hey Jillio, I gots a question, a little off topic,, but you might know.

IF a person gets his in the head can it damage the internal parts of the CI?

There is that possibility, depending upon the force of the blow. Some doctors reccomend no contact sports after implantation, some don't. One of my students raced dirtbikes pre-CI, and his surgeon reccomended giving it up. At my son's deaf school, they did away with the football team and went to soccer only because of the influx of CI students whose doctors reccommended to contact sports. But you will hear others say that their doctors did not make such a reccommendation, or that they, or their child, continues to participate in contact sports.

Not a very definitive answer, is it? Sorry.

But I would say that extra precautions for protection are necessary as the risk is there.

I am also curious how you can get CI replaced if you cause the damage and it is not a mechanical fault from the company. Someone told me once that if you got hit in the ear, it could damage your internal CI parts. I don't know if that is true. But the company isn't responsible if you have an accident or something, so they would not be obliged to pay for any new part if it was an accident. And warranties last how long? Can you get extended warranties?

I believe it would be quite hard to break Internal Implant since it's in a titanium case enclosed in a silicone.

If you were hit hard enough to break implant titanium case then it most likely you will be dead because your skull would be crushed with enough force to break the titanium case itself.

Skull is weaker than the titanium so I don't think you can break implant without breaking your skull first.

Even if your curious how big the implant is, just take 2 nickles and put it together also about the same thickness too. I have held a display model in my hand and it so tiny and thin.

:) I did mostly and a little rock. I finger pick, and play rhythym, so I am no genius on the guitar,, but I do dearly love it.. Actually, it has been sittin here for weeks staring at me and wondering why I don't pick it up and tune it... :)

do you write songs? I have about an albumn of songs, I used to perform them on stage, but rasin kids got in the way of the music thing.. Anyway, it's nice to meet a fellow musician... I wish you much luck with it, and I am so glad that your CI is making it possible for you... good luck, and God bless... J

Yeah, the thing is sitting next to me also! Its been a week, but it seems like forever to me. LOL Its a Jackson C20 like the pic below, I also play more of a rhythm line than technique. Alot of giving the drum beat that extra sub-growl, the reason for the low tuning config. With that Low F# (1.75 gauge), I really had to straighten that truss a few times! LOL Glad to meet you, take it easy.
