(CNN) -- An Alaska lottery held to raise money for a group that helps sexual abuse victims had a surprise winner: a convicted sex offender.

Alec Ahsoak, who according to the state sex offender registry was convicted in 1993 and 2000 for sexual abuse of a minor, came forward Saturday with the winning ticket for the $500,000 Lucky Time Pull Tabs jackpot.

Proceeds of the lottery help Standing Together Against Rape in Anchorage, a nonprofit group that offers support to sexual assault victims among other services.

"It's not how we had envisioned the story going," Nancy Haag, the group's executive director, told CNN Radio.

Alaska has the highest per capita number of rape cases in the United States, according to FBI statistics.

"With a ranking that high, it's ironic that the person who wins is a convicted sex offender," Haag added.

Ahsoak's past was first revealed by KTUU-TV in Anchorage on Sunday. His attorney, Lance Wells, did not immediately return a call Monday from CNN.

Efforts to reach lottery organizer Abe Spicola, who owns Lucky Times Pull Tabs, were unsuccessful late Monday. But Spicola told the Anchorage Daily News that Ahsoak "was going to buy a house and said he was going to donate part of it to God, and, you know, charity."

And another irony: the state that has the highest per capita incidence of rape also has a govenor that does not support abortion for rape victims.:shock:
 
I think this lucky winner should donate ALL of this money to these rape victims, it would be insult to the injury if this winner take a penny or more.

Obviously, he took the dignity of these poor girls, they should be given the right to taketh away! Rape is assault, NOT sexual pleasure you @#%$&#$!!!!!

Did you know what kind of sex offender he was? It didn't say anything that he raped victim but sex with minor... that's all...

You never know that he was being registered as sex offender because his 17 years old ex-girlfriend's parent sued him for have sex with her...???? :hmm:

He was convicted twice. Once in 1993, and once in 2000. I don't think this is a case of an 19 year old having sex with a 17 year old. This man is obviously a predator. Especially since, judging from his picture, he has to be at least 40 years old, and probably older.
 
So are you saying it is OK for offender to have sex with kids? You must be out of your mind, and Im sorry to be blunt., but I still think it is diguesting, kids already victim and you think nothing of this.

I didn´t know that there´re picture in the link, you provided here... I only read the article, you pasted from the link - it didn´t write how old he is until you quoted my post to get me to click the link to look at the picture...

:shock: Yes, I agreed that it could be around between 40 years and 50 years old when I examined the picture in the link. Yes I agree that he is a definitely a predator, not 19 years old have sex with 17 years old .

:confused: You misinterpreted my question. It´s 19 years old guy have sex with 17 years old, I question you about.

Next time, ask me for specific instead of twist my question.
