Severe hearing loss in mid 20s

Is anyone on here born hearing then have sudden hearing loss in their 20s. How did it start and from what?
 
for me, born that way! (auditory nerves might be damaged by mom's smoking during pregancy)
 
I'm trying to find out is it just going to get worse or will it stay the same. I noticed in the last month it's getting harder to hear one on one conversations and the tv. It's just a low noise for me.
 
That happened to me. Born hearing and then in my mid 20s I started having problems - could not hear wispers, TV has hard to hear, things like that. I had all kinds of tests and they could not determine a reason. It just got progressively worse for me. Deaf in left ear now and my right ear is really bad. Hearing aid does not really work well for speech. Life changer for sure. Gotta stay positive. And go to a specialist and see if they can find a reason.

Did you go to loud concerts like bands playing? Did you turn up the volume way too loud that would burst your hearing? Did you have ear infections that cause you have hearing loss? There are different kinds of diseases that can cause hearing loss.

One of the member had sudden loss of hearing and never got it back. It was unknown why it happened suddenly.

Some children were born hearing and then have sudden hearing loss probably by hereditary through one or two parents. It can happen.
 
I had a brain injury and was around a lot of loud noises from gun fire and flight line in the military. But my Audi said my eardrums had no signs of damage.
 
My sisters are twins and were each born with 50% hearing. they have a hard time hearing whispers or low volumes. They dont wear hearing aids and while in school have to sit in front of the class to hear their teachers...as they get older will they lose all of their hearing?

I'm worried about losing all or will I just only be hard of hearing. I notice some days are better than others and sometimes I just don't pay attention to it.
 
for my sisters somedays are better than others. Sometimes when they focus they can hear low volumes...and sometimes (since they are teenagers) they have selective hearing. Every year at their school, they have hearing tests and it always comes out the same as 50% for both. so maybe it will just stay the same and you will be hard of hearing.

I was born hearing, then started losing my hearing during my 20s. Like you, I was also worried about losing all my hearing. And, like you, I also go through good and bad days regarding my hearing ability.

But, these days I guess I have somewhat learnt how to live with being HOH, and am not really bothered about what may/may not happen in the future.

Everybody is different. Your hearing loss may remain at its current level for years or decades. Live for today they say. :)
 
I am 15. I was about 3 years old when my parents had found out that I had hearing problems. I have only had to have a right hearing aid and have had 9 ear surgeries. Here recently I went to the audiologist and found out that my hearing has only gotten worse dramatically so now I have to wear one in the left too. So I mean yeah it kind of sucks that my hearing has gotten worse and only getting worse but at the same time, it makes you, you. I wouldn't change it for the world. Just prepare yourself for it. Anyone have any questions or just want to talk, I would love to meet other deaf or HOH people too, or anything feel free message me!! :)
