Senate drops gays from hate crimes bill

Ok... Here I go..
Yes there is. But it does not include the gender identify or sexual orientation, and much more other stuff that people discriminate, do the hate crime, violence, etc. That bill was invented in about 1960s, I already debated with Reba about it (see this thread:http://www.alldeaf.com/closet/45537-matthew-shepard-act-getting-closer.html) . The bill only include the sex, race, age, and few other things, but not sexual orientation or gender identify..
The reason why the bill is very important, if we don't have that kind of bill then people would just get off thinking it's ok to making fun of, hitting, throwing, kicking out, threatens, etc to others because of their own status. The bill reduce that, but I agree, it don't 100 percent for sure to prevent the hate crime, but it do reduce the hate crime within more enforcement.
Well... The people who do the hate crime against the homosexuals cause it became serious issue just like the racist. That is what makes us seems so emotionally anxiously to pass the bill to protect us. We are the one of other groups (such like blacks, asians, women, etc) that are at highest percent of hate crime, that's a fact. That is what make it as serious issue and cause us taking it so seriously.
Also if there is a person who have gray hair accidently got in the hate crime victim by other, and if that's only one person in a country, then it's not a serious issue, but if there is group with 30 percent experience hate crime victims then that's serious case and it's different story.
Also, I just wanna tel you, it's not only about homosexuals, it's about the AMERICANS and our own COUNTRY!

Oh man, Puyo don't state about "special people" and you never understand about homosexual culture aand their stuff in the world, existing hate crime don't including sex orientation since it does covers sex, age, race and others. Is it okay to make fun to abuse or harassment at homosexual? I'm strongly not accept with like that.
It has nothing with special people, homosexual has been out of traditional, that means not involving with old traditional, that's other way about you don't understand in full, also there's some states has including sex orientation in their hate crime bill but varies of people want goes to federal for some reason.

The reasoning behind hate crimes is:
In the perfect world, "crime is crime, murder is murder, fight is fight." I'm sure you know we don't live in a perfect world.
In the past, there were many, many cases where when a crime is not crime, murder is not murder, and fight is not fight.
For example:
In a Muslim country, a Muslim murdering a Muslim is a crime. A Muslim murdering a Christian is not.
That has happened many, many times in the American justice system.
That's why there are "special people" who seek the Hate Crimes law. This prevents judges and juries from ignoring "crime is crime, murder is murder, fight is fight."
Remember, the "special people" listed/not listed in the Hate Crimes law did not ask for special treatment when they were murdered.
I believe this is the reasoning behind any Hate Crimes law.
When it comes to legislation, it's just all politics and it usually has nothing to do with the spirit of the law.

It's not new, homosexual has been in USA since 1900's but not closet out until after 1960's or 1970's.
It has been in other countries for very long time in before 1900's.
Sorry that's wrong. The US passed the hate crime bill for only the race (the blacks) at 1960's which are only almost 50 years ago. Look at my #22 post to Texan_Guy's in this thread.
Over a hundred years ago that you talked about, I think you misunderstood by those who only prohibited the slavery and THAT'S IT, but not to protect them from hate crime.

i lost it somewhere. and cant remember where i find it. In oklahoma, gay man was murdered by skinhead. In Oklahoma, if someone who is anti gay killed a gay person, will not be consider as a hate crime. In oklahomo law consider as hate crime only as racial issues, not sexual orient.

Congress has the power over the US president. If they vote down anything, it will NEVER reach the president. If it passes and it goes to the president and he may sign or veto the bill and that's how the law is passed.
Agreed, and that's what democracy is.
Then why a republician president Bush are doing that while he's republician?

I have to agree with Secretblend but one has to remember that at the time Congress voted for it. Now...Congress is against it because of the changes in represenative/senate seats.
I do find it ironic that some of our conservative allies, Israel and United Kingdom, have laws banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and we can't pass it.
Aren't we suppose to be a leader in human rights?

I know it was congress's fault but I was blamed on Bush for cause invasion of Iraq, it's end up to cost alot of money and give a much pressure on congress to focus on bills about wars, instead of work on bills for US only or non-war bill.
It's not because of rid the hate crime bill, plus there's spread over media, such as news on internet and Bush would know about something like that.

Well they did make a very good system. Without that, we will never tried to pass this bill. But actually, it have nothing to do with the government system.
What exactly I was blaming on is that government are spending too much money on the wars, didn't do much for us in the America.
Yupp Greece have fairly good GLBT community there. Most of my family side that I am more openly gay to are the Greek side families compare to English and German families.
