I am somewhat new to hearing loss, it has been a gradual thing for me, slowing degrading my entire life (degrading the most in the last 8 years). So, I am learning more and more about it, but just the tip of the iceberg really. I don't know anyone with any hearing loss. So, I just signed up to this site today! :wave:

I wear 2 BTE Resound Azures with ear molds.

I struggle with speech recognition in most things: can't watch TV with out subtitles, can't do drive thru, really struggle with understanding most people is any situation with noise. I can't understand the waitstaff in restaurants, can't pick out much speech at the movie theater, I am struggling at work, the list goes on and on. Seems like I do the best in a one on one conversation in a quiet area.

So, my big question, based on your experience, considering my audiogram chart, and my hearing aids, what are your thoughts?

I am also curious to see other people's audiogram chart, their hearing aid setup, and how well they do on day to day situations like movie theaters or restaurants.

I appreciate any insight!

I know how you feel. Going through the same thing, but a bit more slowly. My doctor tells me I could be deaf in as little as a decade, but there are nice people here who can help you. You came to the right place:wave:.
 
You will find many people on this site that have lost their hearing later in life due to many situations.

Where is that thread that Jillio made for people who lost their hearing later in life? I tried to find it but couldnt...


:welcome: to AD! Been deaf since birth so I dont know what it is like but hang in there!
 
Dan, welcome to AD. If you have not done so already, let your audiologist know what problems you are having. Maybe your hearing aids need tweaking or need repair. I would also check what fitting range your hearing aids have. You can check by going to the Resound website. I have never worn Resound Hearing aids. The your audiogram should be within the fitting range.
 
bahaha anytime now..im surprised he hasn't bombarded the OP with a million questions yet...

To the OP- I am late deafened and I have phonak versata power aids. I have a few diff programs set up, speech in noise, calm in noise, and music i believe, and my fm system. I find if there is any background noise i'm kinda SOL. I have a moderate-severe loss with the highest dB loss reaching round 85 dB or so. If you have any q's lemme know:)

Your audiogram liiks similar to mine with mine worse in few frequencies, but your case is much similar then mine having problems with high frequencies.

I am still not aided and looking for information to get the best aid that suits me.

I am not in the states ,so there is no way I can try an aid. No trial periods here. You just pick an aid and wear it.

For the friends here to help you more, you should tell us for how long you have been having the Azuras. Few members here wear them and they found them great.

If you are in the trial period, then you have option of trying other aids particularly those help with high frequencies.

As your problem is similar than mine, you might like to hear that many members suggested Phonak Exelia Art which has sound recover. This is a premium aid from Phonak.

I have been wearing the ReSound Azure for a couple years now. Seems like I am always going back to my audiologist to get them tweaked. I think I am at that point where I want to really know for sure that my setup is best it can be then I can somewhat come terms with the fact that I can't communicate in certain situations. I don't want to do that until I ask around and get some feedback with people with similar hearing loss. In the back of my mind there is some hope that maybe my hearing aid setup is not the best it could be and with a change I could hear at a restaurant! :lol:

Hearing in a restaurant with background noise is impossible for me. I don't expect any hearing aid to make that possible.
 
What moel is your Azura?

I guess there are new models that are pretty good. At least that what I noticed from the posts here in the forum.

Dan - Been there with Resound Azure BTE's. They were a huge improvement over a poorly fitted set of Starkey CIC's. They just made things louder - not cleare - and very uncomfortable. The Azures were a big improvement, but still had a lot of trouble with speech discrimination with TV and movies, or in crowds.

VA fitted me with Phonak Naida V SP's and an i-Com which was great with my Blackberry and computer. The Sound Recover (high freq compreesion moved over to lower freq ranges) has made a huge difference. They just put me in Phonak Exelia Art M BTE's and set me up with an FM receiver and transmitter. I plug the wireless FM transmitter into the audio out jacks on the back of the TV (not the earphone jack or it kills the speakers for everyone else), and I am hearing almost everything. I can also use it in restuarants as a wireless transmitter and the results are great.

A bit pricey, but if you can swing it the results are fantastic. Still not as good as perfect hearing, but I am enjoying what I have missed for years.

Really help with grandkids voices, especially the girls, and with softer womens voices.

My audiograms start a bit higher than yours (0 to -10/15 in the 1000 hz and lower, but then ski slopes down to -90 to -100 L and -80 to -90 as I get out into the 2000 - 4000 hz ranges and beyond.
