i am having a difficult time finding employment, i live in a somewhat small city (town), and jobs for my skill are few at best as it is, but throw in being deaf and it is just seemingly impossible

right now i really cant move, i have considered commuting, but that is not, what u would say "tops" on my list of things i want to do

anyone here in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area offer any advice?

I've reviewed your resume. There are some mistakes on there. The margins are not even. You've got .38" on top, .13" on bottom, 1.25" on left, and .75" on right. It should be something like 1" all around. As for the rest of the information, the alignment is awkward. The topics are in the wrong order. You're missing information. There's a lot you could actually be doing. Here's a good website where you can review sample resumes.

I live in Warrenton - abt 30 mins from where you live, why don't you apply jobs here in Gainsville, there are many new stores opening...My hubby just applied for Lowes for temporary. he just got job interview yesterday and will be going in for his second next week. PM me if you need help or suggestions.
 
what job exactly r u looking for? if u try to start anywhere, i would suggest desktop support.

i was like u back in 1997 with little experience. i bought couple used PCs, took them apart and built them with some new parts. installed different OS, microsoft NT server, 95 and 98. got them networked. created a domain for the network and provided user accounts from NT user manager. mapped drives from server. added printer to server and shared for certain users. it was like going from scratch to home LAN.

at the end, i wrote long list of projects i accomplished on resume 2nd page. that got many prospective employers attention.
 
im registered with the VA employment commision, i also have 3 case workers at DRS,


what im looking for right now, is part time or full time, pretty much anything that is at my computer level, im also going to be come A+ certified in the next few months (knock on wood there)

i had found such a good job, and i completely exceeded the requirements, completely, but never heard from them (CVS) :(



also i own a few websites, i didnt do the PHP coding but pretty much everything else, www.emuasylum.com and www.wickedgifs.com

You asked me for advice ?
Please make a few corrections/changes to include
your full name, home address, phone number and
your e-mail address on the top of your resume.
Many people forgot all about that word "Qualification".
You could add "QUALIFICATIONS" with 2 or 3
sentences along with it.

These Recruiters like to look at "QUALIFICATIONS"
very quickly so that way the they know immediately
what you're qualified for.

My hearing friend happen to be a Recruiter
so she and her other co-workers (Recruiters)
asked me to be a Volunteer to help them
because they wanted to focus on jobs for
deaf and hard of hearing people for both
private sectors and government agencies.

I'm currently collect and print resumes
from deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

I'm a new volunteer helping a friend to
put together a cross section of resumes of
deaf people with ONE (or some) of the following capabilities:

- space planning/interior design/CAFM/ CAD
- network administration/programming/network support/software
development
- engineering (electrical;mechanical;civil;architecture)
- security (security systems installation; fire alarm systems;
access control systems); intelligence analysts
- warehouse workers/logistics specialists

mine has all my info and email and everything at the top, i just took it out here so i dont got the world knowing all about me ;p

ive been with DRS for 5 years, they are excellent at making appointments ;p past that ehhh, but i didnt want to work, and really couldnt due to some medical issues and school, til i finished school

i reged with VEC 3 weeks ago



i keep applying and my fingers crossed

that would explain if she lacks in IT knowledge. 2-3 pages resume is ACCEPTABLE in IT field.
 
well i have been thinking about it, im going to(maybe) do a project like someone suggested, i live in a area that still has a great number of local businesses, and none have any type of websites, so i think i could start a small company making them

i hate to say company, cuz that makes me feel dumb ;p, heres the thing, i own 2 websites, both are pretty large, emuasylum.com and wickedgifs.com, i own my own server and just upgraded the hard drives, so i have plunty of space, and small sites like the ones for a local business wouldnt take up much resources


just its always hard to get things started, but i got the time and energy

SCORE is an organization of retired executives that help individuals create business plans and learn how to set up small businesses. They provide one-on-one counselling and workshops.
 
have you contacted Vocational Rehabilition counselor? Your area should be Theresa Light. My hubby is gonna meet her this Friday. VR is able to help you to find jobs, did ya know?
 
ive been talking to her for 2 years now, before here i was with someone else named kate, been with that service since 2000

was she that helpful? she did not help me at all 7 yrs ago, I had to get myself a job...she did help my hubby that he got immediate job.

I think its because I was from Texas. sheesh. I really dont like ms. Light...two faced I guess. I don't wanna jump on guns here.

Yeah, I've tried it before. Thats a good organization.

The core problem is that I still do not know
what kind of small business do I really want.
I believe that SCORE people will help only
IF I can pinpoint exactly what kind of business
so I must figure out or find exactly what I want.
I actually need to find someone else to help me figure out
about what kind of business etc... How did
your hubby figure out what kind of business
did he want ?

if you're not happy with her services,
then you can either contact/report to
her boss. Good luck this Friday !

Hubby knew someone who had an established business that he wanted to sell because he was moving out of state. After retiring from the Navy, my hubby wanted to be his own boss in a small business, so it interested him. It was something totally new to hubby, that he never did before. It was scary to take such a big chance but it worked out OK. It has been almost 11 years now.

Thanks for the link! I am planning to establish a small business in one year or less than a year. Nas's dad will provide the financial support but he refused to submit to my wishes that I rather to establish a small business with my own hands... but you posted the link, I will research some more to convince Nas's dad to NOT provide any finanical support.
