Second Ebola victim diagnoed in USA

This might change in matter of few weeks. See previous post about potential 10k cases on weekly basis.

The one thing to remember here is that with the millions of people who live in Africa, only 4,000 people have died so far in the current outbreak and in it's 37 year existence a total of 5,600 people worldwide have died from Ebola. More people die from the flu in the US each year, on average about 23,000 to 32,000 per year die from the flu.

no I did not go to a medical school. did you?
No I didn't, but I know how to look something up.

again... convalescent serum is currently unproven science. it's still experimental and controversial with hit-and-miss results. unreliable. unproven.

cured a lot of people and has proven its effectiveness many times, you say? cite the examples.

Convalescent serum was first used to treat the Spanish influenza epidemic in
1918, of the eight studies available all showed favorable results. The use of convalescent serum to treat Argentine hemorrhagic fever had a mortality rate of only 3.29% out of 4,433 patients, prior to the use of convalescent serum the mortality rate had been 42.85% there are other cases, but I won't bore you with the details, so to say it is unproven is not really accurate.

expansive medical knowledge? oh you! :giggle:

are you saying common cold is same as Ebola? and spread the same?

No, I just wanted to get your take on it. Because you amaze me with your medical wisdom.

Whatdidyousay, I would hate to say yet, but I hope I'm wrong.

I still get many calls they are worried about me and my husband living in Texas. The hospital is about 8 miles away from my in-laws. They said that some people in Dallas call it Ebola Hospital, not Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. My friend's husband works for Texas Health Presbyterian, but he doesn't work in Dallas. My friend told me that they give her weird looks after she tells them her husband works at Texas Health Presbyterian.

that's how daft prejudice and stupidity start witch hunting.

were you expecting people to be clueless about this subject and you be the only expert one?

I knew you were gonna bring that up. I waited to see if you were gonna fall for that trap because it's an indication of how informed are you in this subject.

seriously dude.... 1918? 8 studies? medical science wasn't exactly reliable back then. the medical community and government were largely clueless about this subject back then. and plus - nobody was able to explain why the Spanish Influenza pandemic declined. Are you saying convalescent serum was the reason why the pandemic had finally came to end?

the post result of this pandemic was the beginning of understanding how it works, medical theories on viruses/germs, and better antiseptic practice.... and the worst part... the advancement of biological warfare development.

that's it? why so few....

there you go. I'm sorry but this convalescent serum for Ebola is unproven, unreliable, and dangerous. only 3 people? not exactly quite proven.

and why no convalescent serum "cure" for HIV/AIDS? or Bird Flu? SARS? Congo Fever?

here is a photo of an Antibody structure I hope this will clear things up.

But wouldn't this have been a perfect example waiting to happen... a dirty bomb with ebola and here it is?

no. you've lived long enough to hear this kind of "dirty bomb" threats many times. you should know enough by now that it's nothing but drummed up paranoia to fuel a war machine and propaganda.

Yeah, but there is always that chance with chemical warfare, turning a blind eye is a recipe for disaster.

Closing border? Its gonna be impossible task for anyone. There is hundred and thousands of miles of border that isnt even monitored or on guard. There are plenty of spots on border where anyone can basically walk across without custom guard around.

we can close the border as a drastic emergency measure.

the government can easily allocate entire resources onto it - our troops, drones, choppas, etc.

Cant walk into the US (except mexico) keep all other countries out, no more immigrations. We don't even need the fence at mexico, just set up sniper stations every few miles and that will cure that, DO NOT CROSS, Violators will be shot signs, simple and done.

LOL, in case you haven't watch Kid Cannabis yet.

These border patrol won't admit that they can NOT watch every foot of borders. Not many realize that, only few does.

Enjoy! If you google up, you will find them mentioning concern border and ebola. Its right there, guess you guys haven't travel enough to realize the real weakness out there.

BTW, if these border is so secured, we won't be seeing waves of illegal immigrants and drugs. They are still coming in the United States without even going though customs.

Historical context[edit]
Directly after the events of September 11, 2001, the Federal Government typically placed a higher priority on obvious aspects of homeland security, such as intelligence reform, as opposed to border security. However, the government as well as the American public eventually reasoned that in order for a high-magnitude attack like September 11 to occur, something had to be seriously wrong with the border security apparatuses that were in place at the time. After all, every single one of the terrorist hijackers on September 11 had been a recipient of a temporary U.S tourist visa,[1] which means they were legally allowed to be in the United States. If nineteen men who were committed to causing harm to Americans were capable of getting past the government screening restrictions that were in place, one could only imagine how great of a threat to America was posed by the largely unchecked 3,017-mile (4,855 km) long Canadian border, the 1,933-mile (3,111 km) long Mexican border, and the many unsecured ports.[2] However, the American public also questions why cracking down on illegal entries will hinder the ability of terrorists who enter the country legally.

Ever since September 11, many actions have been taken to improve border security in the United States. The creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2002 as well as the implementation of many new policies and procedures (both classified and unclassified) has without a doubt made America's borders, ports, and airports safer than they were in 2001. However, there is no question that the threats posed by terrorism via America's land borders, ports, and airports still exist; and there are still questions as to whether the United States is truly safe from another attack.

Almost 5,000 miles of unchecked border, eh? I know they have reduced them but still there are weak spots out there.

There will be many Mexicans visit US everyday so just like you visit Mexico or Canada as American.
